When you go to Death Valley, stay on the pavement; don't pull over on the shoulder to take pictures. The sand under the shallow crust is more like talcum powder and you will need help from a kindly stranger to help push you back on the pavement. Going backwards works best.
But Scotty's Castle is a must see.
