Problem #2 reared its head when installing the new shaft in the distributor. The shaft will not allow me to put the two thrust washers that Snyders sent me between the sleve and the base of the distributor. I installed a metal washer and left out the fiber one that was sent. Hopefully this won't be a problem???
You have it correct. I, like Tom, have never found a distributor that would take both washers.

the metal thrust washer is used at the top not the bottom for the shaft collar to ride on. Not sure if the fiber washer was originally used either but if it is used it goes on the bottom

These are directions on an original Ford Box for a Model B replacement Distributer shaft assembly.

I am not sure, but I don't think the dielectric grease is the same. I use Filco brand Lubricant for Ignition systems it is a high temp lube for dist. cams and rub blocks. I got mine from Brattons, could probably get it local, never checked 'cause for me Brattons is local.

Here is a picture of the hardtial frame. I found it covered over in the back of a closet in and old farmhouse i was renovating in the early 80's. Closet depth was suspicious, thinking it was being used as a chase I cut open the drywall (originally plaster) and thinking i would find pipes or duct, there was paint and chrome looking back at me. Took the rest of the wall down and resting on end with front end and wheels & tires stacked in with it.

There are some interesting dents/chips across the high corners at the top of the tank. Looks like a chain had been slung over it and wrapped the tank. I have a lenth of chain that would make an identical set of marks. I have often wondered if the theory of the chain andd the walling over it were connected....hmmm...

Looks like a late 60's build, notice the too long of front end and the ground clearance at the front of the frame...

very cool Steve!!! Looks very similar to the '68 XLCH that was originally chopped by famed bike builder Tony Carlini in the early '70s that I helped a friend restore a few years back. Very interesting story about how the bike was found.

Is that a disk brake I see on the front end? If you ever want to part ways with it please consider me, I would love to restore another old chopper to her former glory!

Do you have any better pics of it that you can email to me?

The parts books show only ONE washer, A-22331 distributor cam shaft thrust washer. A-22331 is described as "1/2" (1/32 x 11/16) plain washer - fiber. Using NOS parts I typically end up with about .003" end play.
