the metal thrust washer is used at the top not the bottom for the shaft collar to ride on. Not sure if the fiber washer was originally used either but if it is used it goes on the bottom |

I am not sure, but I don't think the dielectric grease is the same. I use Filco brand Lubricant for Ignition systems it is a high temp lube for dist. cams and rub blocks. I got mine from Brattons, could probably get it local, never checked 'cause for me Brattons is local.

There are some interesting dents/chips across the high corners at the top of the tank. Looks like a chain had been slung over it and wrapped the tank. I have a lenth of chain that would make an identical set of marks. I have often wondered if the theory of the chain andd the walling over it were connected....hmmm... Looks like a late 60's build, notice the too long of front end and the ground clearance at the front of the frame... Last edited by Steve Wastler; 05-10-2014 at 05:58 AM. |

very cool Steve!!! Looks very similar to the '68 XLCH that was originally chopped by famed bike builder Tony Carlini in the early '70s that I helped a friend restore a few years back. Very interesting story about how the bike was found.
Is that a disk brake I see on the front end? If you ever want to part ways with it please consider me, I would love to restore another old chopper to her former glory! Do you have any better pics of it that you can email to me? |

The parts books show only ONE washer, A-22331 distributor cam shaft thrust washer. A-22331 is described as "1/2" (1/32 x 11/16) plain washer - fiber. Using NOS parts I typically end up with about .003" end play.
