Default 34 oil filter

Where would be the best place to put the oil filter return line on a stock 21stud 34 v8, it does not have the fiting in the oil pan. Drill and tap the intake manifold?

I have seen them plumbed into the fuel pump stand. This would be better than drilling into the manifold IMHO

If you absolutely must have a filter on that stock '34, use the 1940 version with return line through a hollow distributor mounting bolt.

I agree with Ken- when I got my '34 4- dr the first thing I did was remove the oil filter that had been installed. I thought it looked kind of ugly. Just my 2 cents but I didn't really think it was necessary.

There was a version of Ford filters that used a return thru a hollow fuel pump stand bolt, maybe about 39-40. Those are around if you look hard.

Both places you mentioned will have leaks, believe me. Theres too much oil going through the linefp stand causing leaks. and too much oil in the dist end. Use the later double hole dip stick mount. Course the pan has to come off to install. And you will have trouble finding flex lines to plumb it. Not keen on hard piping for these setups. OMO Been there done that. Finally took it off.KEN ct.

Drill & tap 1/8th" pipe thread at about the 2;00 o'clock position just below the gasket flange on the timing cover. I have done this on 2 flatheads - no problems.

I'm going to have to disagree with some of the other responses here. I'm running an oil filter on my '35 fordor sedan with 21 stud 221 CI engine because I think having some type of oil filtering is a good thing. If you do a good job of plumbing that return line I don't see why you would be likely to have leaks. I have a full flow oil filter system on my engine that does not have external leaks. In your case, you could find or make hollow bolts with attached brass line fittings for the timing cover, fuel pump stand, or an intake manifold bolt. I say give it a try and make it work.
