One car had a small hickup yesterday, we were following then and noticed the right front wheel wobbling around, so we flagged them down, the pics tell the story.
The water got in the boot(trunk) driving in the real heavy rain yesterday.
Never mind, the mats and stuff went into the drier at the motel.
We have our stuff ready to put in the car in the morning, funny there looks like more than we had comming down.
taking the same route back , but will take our time.
Yesterday we looked at some nice car museum and the bigest 2nd hand shop i had seen and Strathalbyn.
The engine pick is an Aussie muscle car from the 70,s A Chrysler valiant.
These would have won Bathurst, but the wanted to use the Aussie 3 speed trans instead of an imported 4 speed.
They are very sought after.

Lawrie thanks for the ride along with you. Presently I’m in Vanuatu working, home tomorrow. I’ll call you once I’m home. I’ve been in contact with a guy in Brisbane with a 36 Auburn who needs a Columbia rebuild. I said I’ll check with you if you have the time to do it for him. Dan

Well, we have started the trip, back home,
A few issues though, got the wheels balanced, before leaving, the fitter only did the static balance on them, it drove OK sort of, but felt like it was only a mm away from a shimmy,
Took it back and he tells me it would need 500 grams to get it right, so I left it as it was,and headed off.
The days drive was 220 miles and it was on some really bumpy roads ,so it did not feel that good, but at the end of the day was ok.
Get up this morning , car had a layer of frost on it,got the jack and wheel brace ready, as i was going to swap, some wheels around when we stopped for smoko and lunch, but at smoko it was as smooth as, so left the wheels as the were,
Lunch stop was different, as I walked past the back wheel ,I see it was split on the rim,( this was the spare that we changed when the tyre joint said the one that was on the front was buckled, )and was not in as good a condidtion as the ones on the car,``
So i changed this out and put the one that was supposed to be buckled on,
it has the spare tyre that is quite low on the tread, but funny, the car now drives pretty good, not quit like before but pretty close.
Only thing is we now only have the split rim as a spare, hope it will be OK ,we have about 1700 miles to home.
We drove down a little side trace to look at a memorial , for the locals from the area who served in WW1 and WW2,quite sobering to think that from such a small community gave there all.
Engine has used no oil this last 900miles
Funny thing , oil pressure when cold at 50 mph is around 48 psi, and when the engine is right up to temp after 20 miles or so its 55psi.
We are at broken hill for tonight and tomorrow will be in Cobar for a day or so,
Lawrie

Wow. I've never seen a rim split like that. Hope the rest of the trip goes well. I've been enjoying your reports. Mart.

the split was the spare, it obviously was not the best condition ,I will learn from this and make sure the spare isin top condition and new tyre.
TOday we have done 450 ks,car and steering is back to its usual nice to drive,
most of the day today at 50-55mph,
A lot of wind this morning, and wind noise in the cab,so stopped and stuck some foam sealing strip on the door shut area,it was a LOt quiter inside then,
Also got a few grasshoppers, nowhere near as many as on the way down .some of the roads were flooded the last week or so,and lots of water laying beside the road, this is unheard of out here.
Lots of goats again today, a few emus in groups of 6 or so,and some pretty big and healthy looking roos, and one lonely cow.
pic is smoko on the running board and tiny coffee table with apropriate table cloth
engine has used about 1/8 on the stick, and oil is still looking pretty good,I,have my full flow oil system with the filter down beside the sump , i was going to,do,an oil change but will maybe leave it until i get home, that will be around 4500 miles on it.todate 2800 miles.
We are in Cobar for a day or two.

Thanks for sharing your travels with us. My son and his family were in Australia a couple of years ago. Don't remember where, tho, except for the huge towering rock where part of Crocodile Dundee was filmed.

Rest day today in Cobar, this was and stillis a big mining area,
visited the mining museum, man those old miners were tough, the ladies as well. this was one hard place in the 1880,s,summer temps in the mid to hight 40,s.
We went for a walk up and down town, and got some groceries.
Took all the stuff out of the trunk(boot), and put the now dry carpet back in,also checked the gearbox oil ( full and clean), put a small biy in the steering box,was going to check the diff, but it was all dry around and i did not bring the spanner,so took it as OK.
Man ,we are not used to,the cold here,(3c and felt like 0C) over night.hence the AC set on 24 C ,
I was going to take thengood tyre off the cracked rim and transfer it onto the one on the car,but as i needed a tyre shop to do it and they would not put the 3/4 worn tyre back on the cracked rim,i decided to leave it as it is.
An intresting thing is ,when stopping the car ,lots of little birds get underneath and feed on the bugs, grasshoppers and butterflys that stuck under the car on the sump, chassis etc.
Tomorrow were off to bourke for the night ,(160 ks)then on to Lightening ridge (320ks)for a few days, to have a look around, i will, get some pics from there S its like nothing you ever saw.
Also will try to get some from the drone.
I have said it before on this trip, these old rockets must have been a revalation in their day,to still do the miles in the last few days at 50-55m with nothing between towns ,just humming along,

Hello Lawrie. Thank you for sharing your travels, and it is interesting that you are in Cobar, as my daughter and her family live there. I can appreciate your travels, as in October of 2020, I rented a Toyota Ute camper from Britz, and traveled from Sydney to Perth. We travelled the Strzelceki and Oodnedatta tracks, Kings Canyon, Lake Ayre, Painted Desert, Uluru, and many more beautiful places. Much different scenery and climate, than up here in Canada
Safe travels, and watch for the Roos.

Nice easy dy today, only 165klms,
dont know why but we were up early, breakfast and packed up by 7-30.
Fueled up in town and headed off to bourke.
No goats for a while then ,there they were, at least they are road trained and will be feeding right on the edge of the seal and not even look up, unlike Kangeroos and emu,s.
As we only had a short drive we stopped and looked at stuff, sign said Aboriginal rock art, 3 ks down a dirt road , Cheryl said rhey lied as at the 3k point there was a sign saying 23 klms, so we did a u turn and headed back out to the highway.
the Suburoo that was on the side of the road, had no plates on ,battery missing, air intake hose disconected, all wheels still on,but obveously conked out and abandoned.
The 34 is now covered in red dust and badly needs a wash, that will wait maybe untill we in Lightening ridge tomorrow

Tim, the 34 never ceases to amaze me, it will burn along halve the day at 50mph, then pull up for coffee and biscuits,it will idle as smooth as, and start withone push on the button,it has used no coolant and just a small amount of engine oil,I think I will shout and oil and filter change before we leave here on Tuesday or thursday.
We are at lightening ridge for a few days, have a look where that is and what they do here.
good fuel economy today at 12.5 ltrs/100 ks, was cheating a bit as we only sat on 45-50 for the morning, because we left early from Bourke this morning and Man were the kangerooos out ,we clocked one who ran beside us along the fence line at 22 mph,it was a great look at how he bounded along,a great study in extreemly effiecent locomotion,he came to a dry creek bed and just changed up a gear ,never missed a beat and bounded straight over ,shame i could not get a video as we were clocking hime for maybe 400 mtrs.
these are an amazing animal and found now where else in the world.
Lots of Emus as well, some in groups of around 20 or so.
they are not as neat looking as the kangeroos, they are both on the Australian coat of arms ,as they both can only go forwards,A bit of useless info for you all.we also have BIg wedge tail eagles that have up to 2.5 mtr wingspan, they are sure impressive too
I might do a change out of the cut out on the generator tomorrow, as its one of the electronic one ,it works fine but only charges at about .5 amp,I have a stock one that i will have to alter the third brush, but its not a thing that is needed really as it never fails to start ,even when out side earlier in the week with the temps at 3 C.
