Default Points Gap for Mallory Distributor

I have a Model 2571601 3 bolt front-mount Mallory. I'm replacing its points with genuine Mallory units. There is little specific info out there on points gap; I've read anywhere from .022 to .028. Called Mallory tech, they can't help. However, I did find online a tech sheet from Mallory dated 08.17, which covers Models 2572001 and 2527501, but they are completely different distributors. I also want to limit advance to 18 degrees, as the engine has a B&M blower. Does anyone have a spec sheet they could post? Any assistance most appreciated.

Thanks, glennpm. I have the Installation Instructions sheet you sent, but it's for the 2572001/2527501 models I mentioned above. Point gap help appreciated. But still hoping to get a copy of the 2571601 Installation Sheet, if anyone has one, and advice on how to limit advance to 18 degrees. Thanks!

Does this distributor have a mechanism to set/limit the mechanical advance? If it was mine (and I didn't have the instructions), I'd take it apart and see how the mechanical advance mechanism works.

If it has an adjustment, then it should be obvious. To set it up, I would put it on a distributor machine such that I can tune the advance before I put it back on the car.

If there is no adjustment mechanism, I'm sure it could be modified by somebody like Charlie NY or Michael at Third Gen to set the final mechanical advance.

Note, you have to consider the initial advance as well - to determine the total of 18 degrees you requested. How much initial advance are you running?

I couldn't find any listing for 2572101 by Mallory nor Holley.

I'd set the points at 22° . the linked pdf indicates 22° for all dual points.

https://documents.holley.com/frm3455...01_2527501.pdf

Regarding advance, the same pdf has this chart.

I'd also take a few pictures of your distributor and ask for tech help from Mallory or MSD.

"Contacting Mallory distributor support is currently not possible directly as the original Mallory Ignition, Inc. website is no longer active, but the brand is now owned by MSD Performance (a division of Holley).

Current Support Channel: Users should visit the Holley/Mallory official support page (holley.com/brands/mallory) or contact MSD Performance for technical assistance and replacement parts.
Third-Party Assistance: Many users still find support through major automotive retailers like JEGS, Summit Racing, or Century Performance, which maintain technical articles and parts inventories for legacy Mallory products.
Legacy Support: While Century Performance notes they no longer sell Mallory products, they retain support articles to assist the large installed base of existing components.
For specific part numbers or troubleshooting, customers are advised to have their distributor part number ready, as support teams often require this to match caps, rotors, or modules to older designs like the Comp 9000 or Unilite. "

Thanks again, glennpm. I'll contact my pal Charlie NY. He'll know what to do.

CharlieNY came through again. Set up the dist, ran it on his test engine and all looks good.
No idea why I didn't go to him in the first place....

Good.
What is the point gap setting and did Charlie put in a black bushing for the advance?

Can't help on the point gap but for the best off-boost performance I would run 8d initial timing with 18d centrifigal. Install a MSD boost control which allows for boost retard of
1-3 d per pound of boost. If your running 5 lb of total boost set the boost control at
approx. 1.5 deg retard which will bring the timing back to about 18 d...

Charlie set point gap at .018 at my request, as my 59A has a B&M blower and this is recommended max advance for this setup.
