A seriously low number...Would a person be able to research some records to see if the sedan delivery was built that way rather than converted later? On my 37 and 38, I know for sure the 38 was a dealer demonstrator as it was black with chrome yellow wheels, and pinstripes.

Thanks Ken. I know I'd seen those numbers before but could not recall where. So, where?

Mike,

My source was "Ford Trucks 1935-45" published by Old Cars Weekly. They show their source as The Henry Ford in Greenfield Village.

This morning I checked The V-8 Album published by the EFV8 Club and it has the same number for Deluxe but a larger quantity of 7,592 for Standard.

To complicate if further, The Early Ford V-8 As Henry Built It published by Edward Francis and George DeAngelis in 1982 shows a total of 6,648 (both standard and Deluxe).

Take your pick

Ken

Ken,
You made me run to find my Ford Trucks Since 1905 book by author James K Wagner.
Page 143 picture shows: "Rare indeed (a little more than 200 produced) were 1936 Ford Sedan Delivery cars such as this, fitted with the Deluxe Equipment group which was announced following new model introduction. The Deluxe package initially included dual horns and sun visors; and chrome-plated windshield frame, radiator grille, outside mirror, windshield wiper and horn grilles. Dual windshield wipers were added to the list later. "
And..........The Commercial Fords by Lorin Sorensen, page 129 it is printed 7592 Std and 209 Dix produced.

I believe this number is the most accurate. I am 99% convinced mine started out as most did, that is, a "standard" model.
The (non-plated) grille is authentic to this car and has the green stripe matching the body. There is one visor, one wiper. It did have a radio and heater. I removed the radio but as stated in a previous post, I reinstalled the heater in its entirety.
I'd bet the windshield frame, and horn covers had been replaced in the past. Not unusual to have had that happen.

Yeah, I was smart enough to have a professional photographer shoot the scene before anything was moved. I figured it was my one and only chance to stumble across such a unique find in these more modern times.

Anyway, sorry Kube - didn't mean to hijack your thread! I love your new sedan delivery! I've never seen one of those goofy heat exchangers before - cool that you're putting everything back to how it was back in the day.

I'm 99.999% certain you win the "coolness factor". Make that a solid 100% so there is no confusion

I think you're more than gracious with that comment! Take care and best of luck with your project - can't wait to see it on the road.

My gosh, I believe I am developing withdrawal symptoms having not been able to work in the shop for way too long.
Temperatures here in the Great White North are abysmal. Even with the shop furnace, well, it can barely keep up to a comfortable working temperature for this old man.
I'm still remaining optimistic that this car will be on the road by summer.

Go Mike go. I'm sure you can "deliver" by summer. At 82, I really admire anyone in our age bracket with your git-er-done attitude.

Kube - The deluxe items could have been ordered individually when your Sedan Delivery was built but also later and installed after production, but it's obviously impossible to know for sure without any original sales paperwork. The deluxe features were also available as a package with all of them installed during production, but it seems like this is not the option the original purchaser of your Sedan Delivery chose, so my opinion is that your Sedan Delivery started out as a standard model and got some of the deluxe upgrades at some point.

I'm not sure that a 1936 Commercial windshield was available in stainless, all those I've seen and researched a chromium-plated steel.

I'm really enjoying the updates and what you are doing. I'm finishing a full restoration but would like to take on a project like yours if ever the right truck came along so it's fun to watch your progress.

I'm back! Sorry for the long absence but no time to work on my "new" project in quite some time.
In another thread I'd asked you guys to vote "patina" or restoration. Patina won out hands down.
So, to that end, I'm sure to have questions for you sedan delivery guys. This is a huge learning curve for me.
I have been messing with the interior a bit and find what appears to be "thick" tar paper over the floor tunnel. Before I put the mats back down, should this "paper" be over the entire floor?
In my photo you can still see what remains of the paper on the tunnel. NONE on the floor pans proper. There is paper behind the riser (board).
I did read Don Roger's book, and it mentions the paper on '36 cars. But, sedan deliveries?

Once again, I come to you folks that surely know a lot more than me in regard to this sedan delivery. I am on the learning curve!

I believe, but do not know with certainty, that the tools were placed in the compartment behind the left seat. Yes? No?
If they were not, then where were they placed?

One more question please...
These tools were in the parts that came with the car. I believe they are correct. Yes? The lube gun is model 6550.
Am I missing any tools?
I do have the burlap bag (rough) but didn't photograph that.
Thanks guys...

Brian, perhaps I am mistaken but thought the crank extension was no longer a standard issue tool.
Yes? No?

I'm learning here

Mike,
Just amazing to have these tools inside or part of your time capsule! I can in no way help you at all except I can set here with my popcorn and cheer you on! Dang I hope I am still turning wrenches 10 years from now! Your doing great!
My best guess on unmolested truck that what ever tar paper that is under there is probably what it came with from Ford day one. Just my opinion. Not too many folks that can argue with you either! How long did it set before you brought it home.
Your doing better than me getting to the garage.
Regards,
Chris and Cheryl
