Default Re: This is how you sell a Ford …

This is the way I sell a Ford; I've had my 35 for ever; got it in 1971 driven a million miles; it just gets better and better. Not for sale ever, whilst I'm alive!'

So, I've always liked the look of 39Deluxe coupes, so bought one a coupla years back 'all it needs is an engine'....What a great body, good chassis; someone spent a lot of money at some stage doing a body off restoration. Was advertised less engine; I just so happened to have a real good 39 Mercury engine in my shed, fully rebuilt, ready to go.... Muggins me bought it sight unseen, paid top dollar, got it transported home from the South Island of New Zealand [I'm in the North Island].
but subsequent owners have just had absolutely no idea. Everything was @$&^*$#ed. What a pos!!

I know how to build a nice early Ford V8; I incorporated everything I've done to the 35; rebuilt all mechanicals; lowered it, fitted Lincoln Bendix style brakes, sway bars front and rear, Columbia, radial tires, and it still drove like a dog...Absolutely horrible when compared to my 35....

Pretty car, I'd park it somewhere and people would come up remarking what a good looking car it was. I'd tell them outright that it's a pos! Why don't you sell it? they'd ask. It is for sale I'd reply. How much for they'd ask. My reply was "Make me an offer" And everytime that would be the end of the conversation.

Coupla weeks ago, a mate from another town came down so I could skim the flywheel off of his flathead in my lathe...I took him for a ride in the 39. Same conversation took place....He offered me a swap for his 46 ford coupe. I don't want no more stinkin Ford coupes I replied, but I'll swap it for your Jag...The one outside? he asked -he'd come down in some late model Jaguar. I said- No- your red one...DEAL! says he, and holds out his hand....Whoa, I said, I better check with my Missus [she was out walking the dogs]. I rang her, told her- she also detested the 39 coupe- probably on account of all the money I've spent on it with no satisfaction...her response was to be expected "Another piece of@*)&%YFRE shit! "I'm coming home"

She came home and I showed her on google images what a Mk 2 Jaguar looks like; she liked it. Deal done. I drove the coupe to my mates place and drove the Jag home.

I love the Jag; all I want is a nice cruising car. The 39 coupe was horrible to drive. My wife loves the jag, she comes out to car shows and whatnot in it with me....My mate loves the coupe; reckons it drives so well - go figure??

Okay; here's the best bit. My mate has owned that Mk 2 Jaguar for 43 years. It is repowered with a SBC 350/turbo 350/ 9" diff centre fitted into the Jag housings 4 wheel discs. chrome wires, a beautiful car....goes well, has just the right combination of class, sportiness, comfort, sex appeal.

So, that is the way to sell a Ford.

And I hate 39 Fords with a vengeance!!
