Default 1937 Deluxe Door Window Garnish Inserts

Can somene tell me how the garnish moulding inserts were originally anchored into the garnish mouldings?
The only option I see is to glue them in but is this how they were originally fixed in?

The originals were a fit in the opening. Repops are too small
