To remove the drive from the shaft-
The moving part of the drive has to be retracted, so do not spin it out.
Push the end of the drive that's away from the body of the starter toward the body of the starter to expose the pin that holds the drive to the shaft. (Could be about 1/4")
Drive it out the side, leave it in the drive just a bit- makes it easier to reinstall.
