Lawrie, we're doing good. KC moved in with me in March. Tank is for sale. Went 190 last October. Not bad for an unblown Flathead on gas.

Well, we had the best week at Grafton with the QLD V8 CLUB.
Lovely country drives through the week, nearly ran out of gas as I was day dreaming and forgot to fill up. We left for home this morning from Grafton, but but not the direct route, out west as usual. Today we drove from Grafton up over the Gibraltar range, in the rain ,but had a nice drive, the 34 pulled most of the way in top gear but needed 2nd a few times. Took a couple of side tracks to look outs and camping areas.one was marked as a nice lookout but when we got there it was just a turnaround ,muddy and wet, The outside temp was 3 C,lucky the 34 has t/stats fitted otherwise the eng temp would have been way cold. We stopped at glen Innes for fuel and lunch stop, it was far too cold so we have a cuppa in the car and took off. later we stopped at a roadside food stall and bought veggies(cabbage) ,for the salad lunch tomorrow,( we eat very well ), The 34 is humming alone very nice, but my new 3.54 gear set has a slight wine on over run around 30 mph, I think maybe too much b/lash, so will look at it when home, This plus a few rattles in the windows will get sorted . While stopped at Inverell this little Austin pulled in ,it has the smallest engine and the whole show only weighed 360kgs. Currently we are stopped for the night, I checked over the engine, it needs no oil or water, One thing I fixed was the fuel smell in the cab, turned out to be the tank inspection plate in the boot,(trunk) we not sealed, so I put some duct tape over it yesterday. Tomorrow we will head further out west . Lawrie |

On leaving yesterday morning we noticed two classic cars stopped at the rest area, we stopped and talked to them, one a 57 chev and the other an EH Holden, they were on their way to a show in Moree, they said the 34 would be good turned into a hot rod with a LS engine , I told them it was already one, they laughed ,and commented how quite the flathead was.
Nice day drive yesterday, but man some of the bumps on the back roads, one ,we nearly hit the roof , I’m sure I saw the grill from the cab, The fields of grain here are something to see, one property, (cubby stnh is 93K hectares) Speed on these roads is on 40-45 as they are full of dips and holes. The magpies came in for a biscuit at the very small rural location of North Star,a few fallen down sheds and houses and a store, but there was a motorcycle event here and the kids had to push their bikes across the road, a nice safe thing to do. Fuel usage is pretty good at the lower speeds, and nice to travel with the windows down included the back one,you sure smell all the stuff, including dead wildlife, and cattle trucks, well not the trucks, the cattle in them. We have a rest day today in St George and are off to visit a winery today, Lawrie |

A really easy day today,just 250 klms.
But all of it on a real remote country road, We missed the turn off (well I did) from the main road out west and had to double back, First thing on the right road was this mob of emus, who were very inquisitive and came close the the fence, but soon moved off when we got out of the car. There were a few road trains ,we pulled over when ever one came along, they were carrying cattle and some stuff we couldn’t see, it’s always best to get right off the road. City slickers in Caravan are a different story, they don’t want to. move off the centre of the road,if they do,they stay at speed and put the off side wheels into the dirt and spray rocks everywhere. Further on we stopped for lunch at what is called a point of interest, here the explorer Thomas Mitchell passed here in June 1846. The river here is the third longest navigable river in the world.funny,it’s just sand. Further along we stopped at another point of interest, here in Australia we had folks that were similar to the outlaws ,but meaner. These guys had at the encounter with the constable and station master, burnt the bodies and hacked them up, put them in the saddle bags and set the horses off. Nice people, not. We are in Mitchell for the night, The 34 is still going great, and we are enjoying ourselves for sure Lawrie Last edited by Lawrie; 09-09-2025 at 01:39 AM. Reason: Spelling |
