I saw a pic of and older car transport tractor with an apparatus under the front end. Does anyone remember the purpose?

Is it to enable new vehicles to be "piggy backed" onto another for delivery? You can imagine trucks without bodies and having just the frame rails and then two or three all piggy backed in tandem.

Are you saying that this tractor would be piggy backed after delivering it's load of cars? |

Many times I have seen trucks being piggybacked on the road. Looks like they were all new trucks being delivered. These pieces most likely were removed once the trucks reached their destination.

I dunno. Still not convinced without some pictures. This was part of a picture I saw where the tractor was pulling a load of off breed autos. I was thinking that it was a part of the unloading apparatus.

Undecked a lot trucks over the years and the gear looked nothing like the stuff under the orange truck.
The bracket that was clamped to the axle of the transported truck pivoted on the mount clamped to carrying truck. |
