Actually, you can run a dropped axle with mechanical brakes; I have done so on my 35. if you run, say, an Okie Joe dropped 36 axle, all you need to do is heat and bend the curved piece at the top of the perch bolt to reconfigure it to suit the brake actuating cross shaft. And bend the rubber anti rattle things located half way along the radius rods so the rods can pull straight.
Easy to lower the back of that car too....you can fit lowering blocks between the radius rods and rear axle housings. I made my own, but there is someone in the states that sells them.
