Has anyone had dealings with someone listing his email as [email protected]? I receiver a response from a person with this email address when I asked for a pair of skirts. I looked for a member named coupetaxidermy, but did not find any. Please let me know if any of you have dealt with this person. Thanks

Anytime you post a "want ad" be very careful of who responds. Especially those with a gmail address. If the person is not a member of this site that is your first clue. If you posted your e-mail address in the ad it is entirely possible this person is a scammer.

The person who answered my ad joined Ford Barn on the day he contacted me. After several email exchanges, I told the person who answered my ad that I was skeptical about dealing with him, and cited several reasons. I reminded him that any deal on the internet, put the buyer or the seller at risk, and I told him that it would not be me at risk. I suggested that the deal might be legitimate, but the only way for me to know is if he sent me the skirts; at which point I would send him his asking price. Not unexpectedly, I never heard from him again.

If some one offered your deal, I would run too.
There are a couple of way to be sure on a deal. The safest that I can see is that you tell the seller (after finding out where he lives) that you have a friend nearby and he will pick them up and pay for it.. If he agrees to that, it most likely is legit. A less safer way is to get a picture of the part with the the sellers name and date included with the part. Some facebook sites require this if you post something for sale. Quote:

I just got a reply from [email protected] regarding my wanting Stromberg 81 bodies. Now that I have been warned, I am skeptical about dealing with him. My reputation is good, so that if he wants to ship to me, and then have me make payment to him, that is okay with me. Let us see how this plays out.

Just an FYI, I had someone that had a bumper for sale do this and it looked a 100% legit with my name and date. Luckily I was still wary and googled the image as it was pretty unique and sure enough the exact image popped up on ebay by someone else for 2x what he was asking. When I called him on it, he immediately deleted his Facebook profile So be careful, pretty easy to alter an image now with AI. |

Coupetaxidermy@gmail got back to me. He sent me a picture of a complete Stromberg 81 carburetor even though my ad said that I was looking for just the carburetor bodies. He quoted me a price of $ 400.00. I replied that his price was more than I sell the carburetor for. He got back to me again asking what I was willing to pay saying that we could work something out. I had previously told him that I wasn't interested, and I didn't want to do business with him. I personally think that he is scammer, and I won't do business with him. As others have said," be carefull'.

He answers WTB ads and will email pictures of the item taken off the internet and a price that always includes shipping. It is a complete scam. His user name this time is too much of everything. He changes his user name but the email is the same. His first nine or ten posts to build a history usually say "test".
