We have installed the wood-kit for the rear window in my RIGHT HAND DRIVE 34 South African 3 Window coupe.
Now the regulator and handle is positioned behind my Drivers seat since i have a RHD car. The 4-bolt holes in the wooden panel are obviously installed to fit the 4-bolt regulator in the correct location for LHD US models. I find it difficult if not dangerous to operate the rear window since i have to twist backwards. For US Left Hand drive the position of the regulator is correct since you have easier access to operate the rear window and can reach across. The wooden panel the present regulator was attached to, was a poorly made improvised one, with a 3 - bolt Model A regulator fitted in the correct position on my passenger ( US Drivers ) side. Therefore i know that Model A 3-bolt rear window regulators were available for LHD and RHD Model A‘s Am i correct in assuming that foreign produced 33-34 Fords or exported models to RHD Countries were issued with a 4 -bolt rear window regulator for RHD models? Which would be the oposing side, in comparison to US issued Models? The reproduction 4-bolt 33/34 Ford rear window regulators are only available for US LHD cars. Since i cannot „flip“ it, i.o.w. move it to the opposing side, iam in need of a original 4 bolt regulator for a RHD. If it exists! Otherwise my option would be to install the old incorrect Model A Regulator in the correct position OR use the reproduction correct one in the wrong location behind the drivers position. Any suggestions ? Any leads or possible source for a correct 4 Bolt RHD 34 rear window regulator would be so much appreciated. Regards Randolf |

I have to relocate a 4-bolt rear window regulator to the opposing side on my RHD 34 Ford in order to operate it. The installed wooden panel has the opening and bolt holes for the LHD US-Version, behind the passenger side for easier operation.

Um, could you just flip the piece over? You might have to re-countersink some screw holes? (I really don't know about this. From the photos it just seems logical.)

Pete, thats what we thought as well and did try, but its not working due to the metal frame pressed into a certain shape, its not flat. Also the pin for winding handle faces the wrong way!

Thanks to „mercman from oz“ we found out that the position of the rear window regulator in a RHD IS THE SAME AS IN THE LHD US MODEL. The regulator was NOT switched to the opposing side. The 4-bolt Model A regulator available as reproduction can be used. I believe the crank arm needs to be modified in length for the 33/34 rear window.
Anyone with experience?? The original rear window regulator was the same for 32-34 and looked something like in the picture. Regards Randolf |

![]() My friend just sent me this photo of his Australian1934 Ford Coupe. Notice that the rear window winder is on the left hand side. It seems that Ford Australia got it right, the driver can access it. All very interesting. |

The difference is straight forward. Randolph's and your New Zealand example's bodies were manufactured by the New Zealand and South African parent company, Ford of Canada whose overall production was LHD in the main and whose bodies were the same as those of Ford U.S..
While Ford Australia was also a Ford of Canada subsidiaty, its bodies were home grown and only in RHD form. Note in Trrevor's photos how even the shape of the rear window opening differs between the bodies. The Australian coupe quarter windows are also quite different plus the sills do not extend to the top of the running boards unlike the bodies of Canadian and U.S. manufacture. |

Some times as far as the wood goes canadian products followed the usa version , eg the RHD Canadian seat frame for the 34 Roadster has the reinforcing strut 3/4 towards the left side not supporting the driver at all ,

Wow, very interesting. If the the Australiens had their own RHD Bodies, as pictured in Mercmans photo and explained by David, there must have been a rear window regulator with matching wooden panel for the RHD passenger side.
The spring handle to open the rumble seat lidseems to be for all RHD models on the same side ( drivers ) as with the US LHD models ( passenger ) according to the photos by Mercman. Therefore the rear w. regulator can only be found in Australia for the RHD passenger side. While it is more comfortable to open the rear window from my drivers position having the australien bodied regulator on my passenger side, i tend to prefer keeping the position of my regulator according to Davids explanation, on my drivers side. Simply for authenticity / originality reasons, since my car was built that way and for not having to find an Australien bodied regulator ( probably non existant )! Thank you very much everybody for the great input, pictures by mercman and David’s tremendous knowledge. |

Trevor
Have you ever measured the difference in the door widths as well??? Quite noticeable difference in width's??? Quite a difference in quarter panels because of it too. |
