Ditto on "all veterans", especially folks who saw combat. Always liked the old saying :
"all gave some, some gave all". God bless them every one ! |

Having been on the US Navy payroll for almost 10 years, I've found that those veterans who wore it on their sleeve, and constantly talked about it were actually the furthest from combat during their active time. That's not a knock, just an observation. |

My 4 years active duty was during the Cold War, and although it’s certainly not stolen valor, I do feel embarrassed to personally acknowledge honors bestowed in the manner of a ‘Thank you For Your Service’.
Still, I would really like to see a revival of the practice of Military Service Banners proudly displayed in windows on the home front. I remember the pride I felt in seeing my brother’s Blue Star in our front window during the Korean conflict, and feel that a return to that National pride in Service is what we need today as much as ever.

I think of this person often when I use the old service bulletin I was given by an guy who flagged us down when we were away in the 33.

I use the 10 percent discount for veterans where I can. Why not. They will usually thank me for my service. At times I wanted to say. It was not my idea, it was either the army or jail. |

It certainly was my idea. I had even quit school to enlist, and when the recruiter came to get my parent's signature, he talked them out of signing so I could get my diploma and get Navy schooling. I then had to go back to school, and missed my graduation due to my quitting previously. I got my diploma, and my 19th birthday was then celebrated in boot camp, me being the oldest boot in my company.
