That is a well preserved truck. Very nice! The hood and hood latch look to be the same as that on my 40 Tonner. What is the device with the lever on the right side of the steering column?

An incredible survivor! It had to have been stored indoors all this time. I don't even see any cracks in the steering wheel! Looks like you have a few more very heavy items in the background that might someday beg to be restored. I too am drawn to the big and heavy but you must keep in mind a strange quirk of nature, or is it science? These big vehicles and equipment seem to attract stray atoms or molecules of iron from thin air which then bond to the components, rendering them ever heavier as time goes by. I recently went to toss a tire/wheel combo onto my flatbed and found it had gained perhaps as much as 30 lbs, so finally gave up and cranked up my old friend the skidsteer for some assistance. Keep up the incredible work you are doing there!

Hi All,

So i believe the truck was from WW2, after the war it was in central NSW in Australia and delivered general items as per the ad and an old picture( see pictures).

I bought it from a gentleman's estate that sadly passed, I knew him as he originally sold me the donor truck for the 42 ford Tow Truck I have been restoring. He had no phone no internet so I was in the middle of writing him a letter regarding purchasing the truck but he passed before i was able to send it.

As for the funnel in the picture, I did this so I did not have to rely on the fuel pump and also I did not want to use the fuel tank as I was not sure if the tank was clean.

The lever on the right side of the steering wheel is for the vacuum trailer brakes so you could operate from the cab, this is connected to a vacuum cylinder on the fire wall then off to the trailer which has a vacuum tank above the back axle. ( see picture of tank behind the rear spare tyre)

For me i will not be fully restoring as I do not want to change the truck but rather keep the history.

I will check all the brakes etc and make sure everything functions as it should. I will give it a very good clean and either matt clear it or maybe a boiled linseed mix wipe ( everyone's thoughts?)

They truck starts and idles perfectly now after I rebuilt and cleaned the carburetor, i have flushed the fuel tank and lines and the brake master cylinder needs replacing.

The truck has a 4 speed box and a split differential, it has an early V8 flathead ( i have not looked at any numbers as yet but it has the helmet style distributor)

I also have acquired an early war generator that they used to take to airfields to power the search lights.

Wonderful pieces of machinery. Boiled linseed oil is very good. That rig appears to have earnt it's keep back in the day. I really like seeing things like this.
