Warmest day of spring yesterday so I was inspired to start up the 52 Merc for the first run down the driveway for 2025. Dodging a few mud patches and the old Mercomatic is great for slowly crawling along looking at the scenery. And then a quick burst down the dry gravel road. Running great except for the persistent off idle bog and stall.

Ralph: I had a 1936 Pontiac with a locked up 6 cyl. I filled the cylinders with Marvel Mystery oil and rocked it back and forth in gear every morning for about 3 months and one day it broke free. So don’t give up on that Mercury pickup, just be consistent and patience.

I find Pete's blown up image to be quite puzzling.

I make some of my photos into jigsaw puzzles on a puzzle page. This jigsaw
image I had on file fit this forum better than the original full size image.

![]() Ralph, With a good wash and polish, your Mercury Pick-up could look like this beauty? |

Thanks Ralph. We always know spring is in the air when you post up your first drive. The Merc and it's family history always brings a smile.

Thanks GB. Its a testament to the durability of the Mercomatic that it has survived. This time of year was stressful either plowing through melting snow or mud to get to town. If the half mile driveway was impassable the Merc would be left parked way out there and we'd either have to walk or ride tractor to and from the farm yard. So many memories in the Merc.

Notice the Mercury trucks had one less grille bar than the Fords in an effort to make them a little different. Park lights on fenders instead of in the grille.
Its going to take a lot more than wash and polish to make this M68 look anything like that M47 in your picture. Not a lot of original red left on the hood to polish here. The cars must have had better paint at least by 52. Mine still has most of the original paint and shines up not bad with rubbing compound.
