Default Hinge pin removal

I'm trying to remove the hinge pins on my 36 coupe so that I can install a pair of hinge mirrors. The pin removal tool that I bought keeps drifting so that it is half off the hinge pin. no matter how many times I've tried, it keep moving.
I've tried using a punch and hammer. But it doesn't budge.
Any suggestions?

Removing hinge pins is a pain. I had to heat mine to get them out but the car wasn't painted at the time. Maybe you could go with a coupe of door edge mounts.

Here is a video. Using the method in the video there is no need to crank a lot of pressure on the pin with the tool. Also you can use a corner of 80 grit paper between the tool and the pin to give it a bit of grip to get started.

That is a great video! I have also used the hinge pin tool to remove stuck clevis pins that you can’t access with a hammer, like on 1937 cable brakes.

Boy, I wish that it was as easy as in that video. I'll give that sandpaper a try. Thanks!

Another tip is don’t have the door latched. That can put lateral pressure on the hinges if the door is hard to close. Try and find a neutral weight/pressure position with the door.

I removed mine using some heat and my air hammer. They came out fairly easily.

Normal pins are only swedged the top 1/4" or 3/8th". I drill out that bit. Newc

Well, I'll be dammed! The sandpaper worked. Thank you so much.

My pleasure. Glad you got it with out messing up the paint. Did it come out as easy as the pins in the video?

The passenger side... yes. Driver side was a real bear.
