A few years back I did every thing that has been mentioned above and still broke two pair of wind wings. Then I did like Synchro909 said he done, only I drilled through the glass with a diamond bit and put a small screw threw with a nut on it. Never had anymore trouble after that. After fighting the problem for a couple years and finely fixing the problem I decided to take them off completely.

The repro brackets are smooth on the inside. The originals were dished in where the rubber went and the rubber was dished out to fit in the dish so the rubber gripped the glass better. Repos are hard to get to hold the glass solid.
