Interesting once again that the police department or the Highway Patrol spent the tax players' money on an expensive upgrade like a Town Sedan instead of a relatively-speaking much cheaper Standard Fordor Sedan, which would have served the same purpose. It's a 1929 Murray-bodied Town Sedan, which was introduced in about May of that year. Perhaps the community bought this car before the stock market crash in late October, signaling the beginning of the Great Depression (although it took a couple months for the devastating effects to trickle down to the ordinary car-buying public).
Odd, too, that the fenders and side splash aprons would have been repainted from black to the lighter color, most likely white. Normally just the body received a two-tone paint combo on official cars, if any post-factory repaint job was performed at all. Marshall |

California Highway Patrol, California End of Watch Friday, March 10, 1933 Officer Stephen Kent was shot and killed in Yreka, California while attempting to arrest a man who was wanted for numerous robberies and kidnapping in several states. The suspect had abducted a United States Customs patrolman in Bellingham, Washington, and drove him to California, where he tied him to a tree. He then stole the patrolman's service revolver before driving to Yreka. As Officer Kent, deputies from the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office, and a civilian attempted to stop the car on Yreka's main street. The man opened fire on them, killing Officer Kent and the citizen before being taken into custody by the sheriff and a deputy. The subject was convicted of the murder and executed in 1936. Officer Kent was a U.S. Navy veteran. Bio Age 41 Cause Gunfire Weapon Handgun Offender Executed in 1936 https://www.odmp.org/officer/7488-of...en-samuel-kent ![]()

By the way, to augment this discussion, there was a terrific "Restorer" issue from the late 1960's that was dedicated to Model A's used by police forces back in the day. There was even a running pictorial "Gangbuster" account of how the police had chased a pair of criminals, complete with photos showing bullet holes shot into the pursuing police Model A. The final pictures show the two scumbags in custody. The clarity of the photos and the dramatic pictures of the people involved make me think they were posed for this story, not showing the real criminals. A pretty good issue overall, as I recall. Lots of period photos of Model A police cars and several of restored ones, as well as period and modern policemen in uniforms.
