Default NC State Police used the 1935 Ford - video

Thought that this would be an enjoyable video for all of us old Ford fans

I have actually been able to see this vehicle. It's on display at the NC State Transportation Museum in Spencer, NC. I was even allowed to look under the hood and inspect it in great detail.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1vunGmH4krA

I had a good friend, Brigadier General W.E Riggs, now passed on, that actually rode in one of these Highway Patrol cars as a young man. A Trooper gave him a ride from Grimesland, NC to Raleigh, NC in 1936. He was a young man then and was given the lift so he could get a drivers license in order to drive his school bus.

Anyhow, I hope all enjoy this video.

I rebuilt the engine in this car for and during the second restoration back in the 80's. After it had been in a fire, the former owner (Otho {Ote} Corriher) restored it and donated it to the NC Transportation Museum. Finding that piece of bullet proof glass was an almost impossible task then and I don't remember where it was found.

Mr. Corriher was a collector of fine automobiles and had a passion for dual cowl phaetons of other brands. He had an early Mercer Raceabout. I honed the cylinders on the Mercer while laying on my back beneath it. It had a stroke of about what seemed to be 6-8 inches. My charge for honing the cylinders was getting to take a ride around the streets of Landis, NC. An elderly old man scared a young me while taking that ride, but I still remember it. Seeing the '35 brings back fond memories.

v8fordman... you did a great job!

I am making a note of this in case I have ? down the road on my '35... seeing as hour your just an hour or so down the road.

The following photo is of my Granddad and my Aunt sitting on the running board of his car...and I am thinking in the mid 1930's. He was a law man from 1922 until his passing in 1968... and he required a fast vehicle since he lived in Northern Guilford County at a time when the entire force was less that 30 officers.

Any of you out there have an idea just what year and make vehicle we are looking at here?

'37 Dodge D9 I think although the roof line doesn't look quite correct.

I believe that 35 roadster was yellow with glass fenders when my Dad and I looked at it in Spencer 1988. I still have a pic I took of it somewhere.

Iowa Highway Patrol 1935 Ford. I would love a black 35 slant-back!

I have a ‘35 Woodie in the middle stages of restoration. The chassis and undercarriage are all original if you ever need to look at it.

I also built the engine in the 1933 Fred Frame Elgin Road Race winning car for Roy Nacewicz when he did that restoration. Does anyone know where this car is today? I believe it went to the Dingman Collection from Roy, but lost track of it after that.

This just popped up on a local Facebook post. I have no idea who the patrolman is, but I know the car is one of the ‘35’s that the NC Highway Patrol used.
