Default quality wire harness from?

Guys, I'd like to know who you would recommend for a quality harness. Thanks!

I purchased mine for my entire '31 pickup truck at Snyder's. It's been many years now and all is good. I had no modifications to do on it either. Correct color wires and proper gauge with end connectors were all there. Hope they sell the same sets today.

If you need a standard harness, nothing customized, probably the major vendors will give you the best pricing. FordBarn member Wick had a stash of NORS harnesses but I think he sold them all at Hershey.

I purchased a 2-bulb harness and the switch housing kit from Snyders several months ago. Everything looked good, fit well. I did have to take the housing back apart and ad a bit of lube to the contacts as it wouldn't rotate freely. Never force it, evaluate why. Now works great. Hooked up the Ohm meter wiring looks good electrically through all switch positions. Just got a new set of headlight sockets, they look good, made in Taiwan tho. Contacts are sure close together. Still cleaning up the headlight buckets, and the horn, that I rewired to run on 12volts. May be the funnest retirement project so far.

Most vendors have good harnesses but not so good light switches. I installed an original switch to my new harness. Also be sure you know if you need a two or one bulb harness.

Kube, have you checked with 3rd Gen? He gets his wire harnesses from one of the major two or 3 manufactures left in the US. I can't recall the names of them right now.

Does the wiring harness go in only one way. Can it be put in wrong. We installed a new one and have no brake lights. The headlights are not hooked up yet. Does that matter.

You mention you don't have the headlights hooked up. Do you have power to the light switch? The brake light get power from the light switch.

We get parking lights. Just no brake lights. Will check the brake light switch again. There are no markings on the switch to tell which wire goes where.

Sacramento Vintage makes their own wiring harness in house. I haven't found any better.

I looked in the video gallery and didn't see anything on brake light switch. Is there another spot to look. Thanks

I'm sure all of the vendors recommended above offer quality harnesses. I'm partial to YnZ in Redlands, CA. I worked with the owner, Gene years ago and have been to his shop. He produces a top quality harness, both original or modified according to a customer's specs. Also, he is a car guy who knows wiring inside out and he comes to our local Saturday cars and coffee. Worth a contact. IMO

The brake light switch is an on off switch so it only turns power on and off. It could be connected either way and still function normally. I recommend just using a common sense lay out for wiring. Closest terminal to the power side and the other to the tail lamp or just whatever seems to fit best.

Rhode Island Wire seem to take their product a step further than some. They coat the wire outer cover with a clear lacquer coatings. Most of the other fabricators don't go that far. They are competitive on prices.

If using the original color code, the green wire from the switch goes to the brake light switch. From the brake light switch, another green wire goes to the brake light.

Can it be checked out with the switch hanging loose or does it have to be mounted to the car for grounding.

The ground path is only between the light housing attachment back to the battery through it's frame connection. The 1930/31 model a vehicles use the push type switch mounted to the center cross member to control power to the brake light only. It's pushed to keep the switch in the off position and then when the brake pedal is applied the plunger moves forward by spring pressure and closes the switch.

I like the design of the 1928/29 switch better but that's not the way that the 30/31 cars were made. There are cheap switches and then there is a well made one so I recommend folks go for the well made one if they can. This link has it for reference.

Rotor, this is a 29 were working on. So it doesn't have to be mounted in order to work right. If it doesnt could we have the new harness installed wrong.
