Knew nothing about flatheads when I got my first a few years ago. Learned at the feet of the experts here, and on the V8 Club forum. Not going to try to call them out by name; sure to overlook someone. You experts know who you are.
I am so grateful that you share your knowledge! |

All true, but I have a different take on the whole thing. I found that Ford guys and gals, specifically flathead people, are a cut above most anyone I ever knew in the way of just being good folks. The best cars brought us all together, but it’s the people that keep us together.

I have found that the Fordbarn folks do really appreciate the willingness to share knowledge and help each other out.

I knew nothing of flatheads 2 years ago when I bought my 40.Coming from vw’s and a little bit of Chevy small block, I didn’t even know what flathead meant or was. Because of the barn I feel like an expert now (but I’m far from it). As a reader of multiple forums of various car types, it’s nice that all the “old timers” aren’t just here telling people to “use the search” and whatever else. The willingness to answer questions (that I’m sure have been asked a million times) has helped me and my build so much. Thank you everyone!

At a Western National, I shared a dinner table with a V8 Foundation employee. So now my V8 estate goes entirely to the Foundation, all spelled out in my trust. Big job for them, but my relatives don't care a whit. Newc

Chris (Sugarmaker) on here has become like an older brother to me. The 1942 Ford would have never got this far without his help and a very valuable friendship. Charlie Schwendler has also been a huge asset and friend along with many others on this sight. I have to give a shout out to the wives too. For 43 years Cathy has found ways to help me make things happen even in times when our bucks were really tight. She's helped me clean, hold the light, even install ignition wires in the conduits. She's been my "believer". I caught lighting in a bottle the day I found her. |

Yes! I have been a contributor to a minor extent on the Power Wagon and Tri 5 Chevy sites. I am still learning the flatheads. The problem is, I am forgetting what I actually did. Lots of pictures and notes. I even searched a topic on this site and discovered I had asked the question 1 year before. Tough to give advice when the memory is slipping. The guys that really know are a blessing. Shout out to all of them.

Most of us are on the wrong side of 80, just a fact of life guys. The members of this board have helped me so much even though I’m “one of them” (not a purist).
I'm very concerned about what's going to happen to our cars when we all pass. In my case it goes to my daughter because she has always wanted that car and drove it when she was in high school. The kid that grew up in my shop is retiring out of his own diesel and automotive business. When he retires I'm not sure what's gonna happen as far as maintenance when my daughter gets the car. The only thing that I've been able to think of is excellent record keeping as far as the conversions, fluids and so on; 12 Volt, electronic ignition, electric fuel pumps, stereo, electric fans etc. A “so-called” tech might be able to figure it out. In my records is the URL of this board. Hopefully there will be some younger members who will point her in the right direction I really don't know what the purists are gonna do when their time comes. Their cars are going to be a real bear to maintain. |

Don't forget David Rehor. When I bought my 32 5Win in 1981 and decided to restore it,
he and I corresponded by snail mail throughout the process. If it weren't for him my coupe would have never been correctly restored. His knowledge of 32 Fords is second to no one. Thanks for all of your knowledge and expertise. My hat is also off to everyone else on the Barn that continue to offer advice. Peter |

I'll add that I was amazed when I realized that such known experts as David, Mike Kubarth, and authors like "Ol' Ron were active contributors here. Back when I first joined, we also had John Lawson and Walt DuPont. There are also the repair experts, like "32Phil", "scicala", "ndnchf" and the guy who makes the truck sheet metal (sorry, can't remember the handle) who are resources that are invaluable. I just wish Charlie in New York were included.
All in all, we have a tremendous resource in this forum. |

In addition to the great members on this forum I also greatly appreciate the V8 Club advisors, particularly those who wrote books on their specific years of knowledge. We are truly lucky that some of those advisors like David Rehor, David Gunnarson, and Mike Kubarth are also on this forum. As one of the few on this forum on the short side of 50 I am somewhat apprehensive about the future of the V8 hobby, but that is a topic for a different thread.

I must mention 'flathead Fan" I know his health is poor and has not been contributing much here anymore, but he has been a mentor for me. years ago i saw his 35 at a local car show and he spent a lot of time with me showing his work. that prompted me to work on the 35 that my dad got after WW2. it was all in boxes and totally disassembled. with his help, and others on this site I was able to get it done. He has truly been an inspiration for me. Thanks to all

I'm another one here on the short side of 50. In December, I'll have a year to go before I retire. Can't wait to have more time to work on old Fords. After attending TROG a few weeks back, I can report the hobby is alive and kicking. May have changed a bit and the end goals may not align to some, but the interest in old Fords is stronger than ever in my opinion. What I think is cool is it seems like more folks are driving their old Fords. They are not waiting until they are restored. They are loving them as they. I'm 76, been here 14 years, and still feel like a little kid sitting at the feet of giants. Thank you all.
