Pondering trying to sell my 36 pick up

The history.

It started as a father - son project when I was 16 YO. It took about 2.5 trucks to make one. It's all original sheet metal except for the rear fenders. The major work was done between 1972 - 1980. It was stored for probability 25 years. Put in a new motor (original had a cracked block at the valves) a few years ago. Now it runs great.

My questions are. How do I value it (IE what's it worth), where do I list it for sale? I'm asking because I have never sold a vintage item before. I've only sold low value stuff on Craig's List.

Do a search as to what they are selling for now. As has been mentioned before, old cars and truck prices are not increasing very much, if at all. One thing you might want to ask yourself is, " How much would I be willing to pay if I wanted a truck like mine?" Good luck with your sale.
Then advertise it on Fordbarn, HAMB and bring A trailer.com for starters.

When you post it take as many pictures as you can; underneath the truck ,inside of the bed ,etc..The potential buyer may have a long drive,so entice him to make it. Also list all the main components ; trans, rear gears, brakes , shocks, suspension mods or upgrades.

In addition to what Joel posted (below) be sure to talk with potential buyers to get a better feel for the transaction. Also, tell buyers if there are any problems with the truck that need fixing so there are no surprises. Encourage the buyer to actually come and look at the truck. Type up a history of the truck as provenance with photos.

My first inclination would be to list it on Hemmings on-line.

Ford Barn, Early V8 Club are nice sites but typically "tire kickers" and "low ballers".

Bring a Trailer is also a nice site, but old cars, especially fairly stock examples, tend to not fare too well.

Far be it from me to argue with Kube, but I have bought two cars off Craigslist. Lots of locals look on CL. I think Facebook Marketplace works well, too. No argument about Hemmings. I take a trains, boats and planes approach to selling things.

Contrary to what Kube said, I think se are still a hot item. Even unrestored drivers
like mine are bringing good money. If you are a member if the Early Ford V8 Club,
advertise it there and Bring a Trailer and Hemmings. That looks like a pretty decent
truck. I don't think you'll wait to long for a $20K offer.

Nice half-ton, Rick! Where's your spare? At least an original Ford spare mount. That's a significant item for a serious buyer, no doubt, with wheel and locking hubcap as well.
Who, or what rebuilder rebuilt the motor? . . . is another significant item that a serious buyer with $20,000 will ask.

There is a bearing in that torque tube - or MUST BE a bearing in that torque tube w/a GREASE FITTING on the tube top side which cannot be seen by the not-knowledgeable owner.
(although the owner soon REALIZES after purchase that there's is a bearing that has-not-or-never-been greased in the tube; i. e., a jaw-dropping banshee SCREAM/SCREETCH.

Just as a point of information: The OEM torque tube center bearings are super rare and no longer available. If you do find one be prepared to pay "big money" for it. Do a Fordbarn "torque tube center bearing" SEARCH for tons more info. For instance:

However, I do recall a thread was posted several years ago showing how a fellow in FL actually recast the rubber around the OEM bearing so it could be reused.

I'm going to agree. Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace can both be searched nationwide by anyone with modest computer skills -- and any guy in the hunt for a specific vehicle will have alerts set up when one comes online. By ignoring these two resources, you're probably ignoring a couple of generations of younger guys, too.

I have no knowledge of the original poster, however he has been on this site for more than 10 years. I am sure that he knows that vehicles for sale are supposed to be put in the Swap Meet section. There are so many places that values can be checked rather than posting pictures in the forum section. I think that Ryan surely should recognize this.

If you are a V-8 club member you can post an ad on the V-8 Club website and in the V-8 Times magazine for free. I would try both first.

I've bought and sold many cars on CL.
What works for me is proper description, many pictures, and wording, accepting only actual phone calls...a lot easier to sort out/rule out certain potential sellers/buyers, by actually talking with them.
There are many of us, who don't do Facebook.
