Stop Leak
Has anyone added Barr's or Lucas oil stop leak products to their engine oil? Did it help to a degree with any leaks? I tried checking previous threads but couldn't locate anything specifically addressing this. Thanks.

Re: Stop Leak
Oil stop leak products are for engines w/synthetic material seals, like neoprene for example. With age and heat the seals tend to stiffen up, lessening there ability to seal against the moving (revolving) part. The "oil stop leak" softens up the sealing materiel. It won't help if the parts are worn, causing the oil to leak out the excessive clearance.
I doubt that they would work on a Model A with "old timey" seals.

Or no 'seal' at all like the rear main.

Re: Stop Leak
A little bit of oil leak is fairly common. Lots means it needs fixing.

Re: Stop Leak
(A) Most Model A motor’s are happiest about a 1/2 quart less oil than the dipstick indicates. I would suggest that you stop adding oil until it gets that level or even a bit lower. If it keeps leaking after that then it’s time to did deeper. (B) Since there is no rear main seal if you park facing uphill the oil is going to drain out the back just like it will if you overflow the bathtub.

Re: Stop Leak
I never fill my bathtub with oil.

Re: Stop Leak
Thanks for the inputs Gents. I believe the issue is the rear main leak from a full dispatch. Will keep it at least half full on the stick.

Re: Stop Leak
Agreed with the above info on a stock set-up A, but if you have a modern-type rear seal that drips a little or your modern ride leaks 3-4 oz of regular brake fluid in the crankcase (with the motor oil) will swell the seals enough to stop your leak most times.
No need to waste your money on expensive oil stop leak additive, grandpa knew all of the tricks |
