Where to install electric fuel pump

Just installed a new fuel tank on my coup and want to install a Carter P4070 electric fuel pump. Anyone have some input on where to mount this fuel pump. I am still running the transverse rear spring and will be running new 3/8" fuel lines to a fuel regulator. Pictures would be helpful.

Electric pump should be mounted as close to the fuel tank as possible. I mounted mine to the frame where the fuel line runs.

and/or as low as possible even if up front. Both my 221 & 413 are amply fed by electric pumps mounted low and up front.

there are two types of electric pumps pushers n pullers pushers mount by the tank the other by engine somwhere

you can locate the pump just about anywhere forward of the tank. look for a protected spot and i always put a inline filter between the tank and the pump and between the pump and the carb. if you have a strong pump like a holley red you can mount it in the firewall area if you want. you should get a regulator also and set it according to your engine (if you have multi-carbs etc..). on a single carb flathead v8 i set it around 2-3 psi.

Close to the tank and WHY such big gas line. 1/4" line will feed 3 carb system. ken ct.

I made a bracket to weld on to my frame, then I bolted my pump to it. I used the general size fuel line from my tank feed. At the time I thought I screwed up as I put the pump up front about 12 inches aft of the firewall and I have an additional fuel filter aft close to the tank.

Once I had a good ground, it hums like a charm and works well.

When I do another with that type of fuel pump I will locate it in the rear, as the instructions say

I will be running dual pipes so position of the pump and bracket is important. Don't know if I should try to mount on rear cross member close or on the main frame just ahead of the rearend on the low side? Will also be running a Holly 390cfm 4 barrel carb and wonder if I should run a regulator?

I mounted mine on an aluminum plate using stock holes in the frame. It's mounted on the frame just in front of where the sheet metal trunk floor drops down. I also have dual exhaust. I also installed a fuel shut off petcock in the fuel line as it comes out of the tank. You can see it in the 3rd photo. This allows me to change the fuel filter and pump without leaking gas. The round silver thing is a pressure regulator. Be sure to use rubber insulator to lower "clicking" sound of pump. I also installed an aluminum heat shield plate to make sure exhaust heat did not cause vapor lock problems. Car is 40 Ford coupe.

I just put one on the 47, mounted it on the firewall, and I think I'm going to have to move it. The engine runs ok, but I did get a couple of times where it acted like it was starving for gas. The main reason I'm moving it is it's very noisy. Moving it will probably fix both issues. I will use 19Fordy's advice as well.

I am using a Holley 390 with manual choke. Engine is stock 239 cu. in. with adjustable lifters plus other "goodies". I am still using the 1/4 in. dia. fuel line. This supplies more than enough fuel.

Just installed Red's dual exhaust and found that pipes run too close to frame for Carter 4070 installation. Trying to find a place to keep the pump intake close to bottom of tank and close to tank.

Wherever you eventually decide to put it, make sure it's rubber mounted or the noise will drive you crazy especially if it's mounted on sheet metal.

I mounted mine inside of frame about half way up,and if needed to change it on rode or what ever, take the rear wheel off.

So George; does that mean the fuel pump is higher than the bottom of the tank?

I replaced the AC can filter on my truck with an inline.
Much easier to change roadside. No gaskets. No leaks.
Available at any parts store.
