I asked this question in the recent "Clutch Chatter" thread, but didn't get an answer. How hard should I tighten the motor mounts? Is there a torque spec? Till the threads bottom out? As tight as I can get them?

Until you can insert the cotter pin through the slotted nut.

I tighten the mounts on my 40 about 1 1/2 to 2 turns of the nut after until the flat washer is firmly against the top of the rubber and the cotter pin can be inserted. You don't want to crush the rubber. To my knowledge there are no specific torque specs. I am using 8RT pumps but the principle is the same -firm but not crushed.

Check the parts book to make sure you have all the correct parts before tightening. including 6033 and 6029 washers. The bolt and the castle nut use a cotter pin.

I think "Kube" has the best answer as it would make no sense to keep tightening the nut to the point where you can no longer slide the cotter pin thru the hole in the bolt.
