Side molding for 1950 Ford 2 door sedan
When I got my 50 Ford there was no side molding on the car, only the holes. About 50 years ago I had a 50 Ford that I filled the holes and painted to car and was good to go. This time I was wondering if I should try to find the trim and put it on the car or go ahead and fill the holes again. i have looked for the trim and found some at Shoebox central but it doesn't include the fender molding, or clips. Does anyone have any thoughts about which way I should go.
I know its in the eye of the beholder but before I jump in and do anything I thought I would ask the experts. Also is it better with or without the trim when it comes time to sell the car, or again is its personal preference? Thank you |

Are you planning on painting the car either way? Would be a lot of work just to deal with filling trim holes. Would suggest calling Chris at 610-442-2187 afternoons, as he has probably 30 '49 - '51 shoebox parts cars if looking for trim hardware.

Re: Side molding for 1950 Ford 2 door sedan
I strongly encourage your endeavor; I think these cars look way to "Slab-sided" when the trim is removed. When I did my '51 years ago, I had no problem sourcing the trim and clips. Things are probably different now, but enough of these cars were made that the trim should be around. For clips, etc., I have found that Restoration Supply Company" has a ton of stuff. I got their print catalog 20 years ago and was amazed at the selection available. You may have to get a bit creative, but I'm sure it can be done.

If you are thinking about potential resale you should put the trim on the car. The trim will make it correct and appeal to more people.

I agree with the others. Put on the trim. Looks a lot better with it on in my opinion.

Put the correct side trim back on the car. I have been lookng for a nice original 50 tudor sedan and have discounted every one that I have seen with out side trim and with the holes filled. Too hard to undo.

I agree with the folks above. Looks somewhat "naked" without the trim.
