6 Volt heater motor rebuild
I just went through a lot of search results looking for information regarding rebuilding of my 6 volt heater motor. Unfortunately, most of it was at least 10 years old and not all that current.
So, does anyone have or know of someone that will rebuild a 6 volt heater motor. This is in a 41 Pickup. The wires are shot. Supposedly it ran when last checked, but I don't know how it was tested considering the condition of the frayed wiring. I can take it apart if needed, but am not certain what I would need to do then. Electric motors are not my strong suite. The other option is if anyone has a good motor, I would/could buy it. I'm still searching for other options. |

Re: 6 Volt heater motor rebuild
Look up NAPA #6551021. It is a universal, reversable 6v heater motor. I rebuilt the heater in my Willys jeep using one. It was not hard to adapt it. It worked great.

Re: 6 Volt heater motor rebuild
Here is the Hadees brand heater I restored 5 or 6 years ago using the NAPA motor. The new motor was a little longer than the original, but there was plenty of room for it. Their slogan was "hotter than Hell" and they had a rather naughty badge

Re: 6 Volt heater motor rebuild
So, how is this unit wired to the switch to make it reversing?

Re: 6 Volt heater motor rebuild
To reverse direction of rotation, you simply swap the wires around. Odd that it does not say 6 volts, it used to. But it is the 6 volt version. The 12 volt version is part number 6551022.

Re: 6 Volt heater motor rebuild
The heater motor used in 1940 would have been a four wire model.
They used forward and reverse for different defrost modes. To make the NAPA motor work you would have to implement relays to reverse the polarity from the switch, to achieve the same results. Kirk

Re: 6 Volt heater motor rebuild
I've had several Hadees heaters and not seen that badge before. Mine have just the devil with some flames in back of him ( or her...we must be politically correct now days ) , I like yours better!

Re: 6 Volt heater motor rebuild
I restored one of these heaters. I used a gray hammer tone paint. It turned out really nice.

Re: 6 Volt heater motor rebuild
I'm making progress. Ecklers has a wiring harness that I ordered.
There is a place in California that would rebuild the Redmond motor I have. I'm not very fond of their price structure though. $75.00 to test it and $425 additional if it needs to be rewound. I'm having conversations with a guy in Florida who can also rebuilt it. I'm waiting for his reply about the cost. But I'm at least making progress. |
