Default windage tray

Has anyone installed a windage tray on a 8BA??? If so, was it hand fabricated and was there an advantage in oil aeration or HP gain. This is in relation for a heavily modified, supercharged 8BA...

Not in an 8BA pan, but in a 59 AB pan. I didn't do the work, Ronnie Roadster did.

From what I recall, the tray was an universal fit part that he cut it to fit in the pan.

I don't have proof from a dyno before or after, but if he installed it then it must have an advantage since his reputation and land speed results speak for themselves.

Hopefully he'll post a reply on your question.

Mercury pan might be what you are looking for.

The pictures below are showing the windage tray and special main bearing studs used on my SBC for reference. The Mercury pan looks like a good option.

If you fab your own, I would do it so that it could be removed the tray for future pan cleanout.

I use them on all of my engines. They are home made with scrapers. As in many modifications to race engines, they need to be used in conjunction with other mods to realize full benefit. Aereation is usually not a problem even in a wet sump engine.

I have fabricated lots of windage trays in my 8BA race engines as well as few others as Tim mentioned above. There's certainly an advantage to be gained considering the amount of oil hitting the crankshaft in a flathead crankcase especially when you decide to use the options in your case the blower.
As Pete wrote above a crank scraper is an additional item that helps improve the windage issues. If you have the time its worth the effort to install both.

I have no experience fabricating a windage tray, but I have helped attempt to clean out a 1950 Mercury pan with a welded in tray. I caution anyone who thinks the Mercury pan is an instant answer, there can be a lot of old sludgy hard crud under that windage tray that is very difficult to clean out without cutting out that tray.
