I recently installed an in line fuel filter(the car never had one). After running for about 20 minutes the car stalled and ran the fuel filter dry. I tried releasing the gas cap thinking it was a vapor lock, no change.
I have an external fuel valve under the hood, before the filter, making it easier to service the filter. During this stall out, I remove the fuel line after the filter, open the valve, no fuel comes out. Then I open the fuel line before the filter and fuel flowed easily. I changed the filter, thinking I got a defective one. Ran the car for 20 minuted or so, same problem. I have eliminated the filter and will test drive today. Any suggestions? |

In inline fuel filters do not work well with gravity feed unless they are designed for gravity feed.

Once the air is bled from the filter it should flow as long as its set correctly.

I had the same problem. Fuel would not gravity feed through an in-line Napa filter, but the old one would flow fuel just fine. I just removed the inline filter.

Does anyone know of a low-restriction inline filter that will work ?

Just had the car out for a 45 minute drive, no filter, no issues.
She doesn't like a gas filter.... |

Go to a hardware store or lawnmower shop and buy the in line
filter for a 8 to 16 hp motor. They are small, but will allow gas to drop down to the carb. I have run one on mine for 12 years. Clean gas is more important than you think. The ones I'm talking about are sometimes clear plastic or opaque so you can actually see the gas flowing. |

I had the same problem and it ran fine after removing fuel filter. Cast iron sediment bowl so I will get one for a tractor if I put a filter back on.

Many years ago had a problem with water in fuel making the paper element swell up enough to not allow fuel to flow.
Also had fuel with enough water in it to be nonflammable gas. Try a filter with plastic or sintered metal element J

I have been using these WIX filters in my glass sediment bulbs on my cars for years and have been very happy with them.. Never had issues with any fuel starvation and I change them every few years as preventive maintenance. Like everything else their price have certainly gone up over the years..
Also I typically add a pill sized super magnet to the metal bottom of the WIX filter. It is amazing the amount of rust particles that these magnets attract keeping the fuel to the carb super clean.... |
