Please school me on the special fittings on my holley carb, both fuel and vacuum. In the past I have been guilty of threading tapered pipe fittings into carbs and fuel pumps in order to get something running. For years I have saved the brass nuts ford used and employ them when I can. I now find myself with a really nice Holley 847 from ebay and none of those special nuts. I have done a search on google and the barn with no results as I don't know what they are called. Thanks in advance, Gary

I always heard them called Ford nuts. You can buy them from Third Gen Automotive https://thirdgenauto.com/product/new...-fittings-1-4/.

If you all are referring to the current "ferrel" nuts sold by several vendors, I have found them to not seal as well as originals. I have had to tighten, loosen and tighten severas times to get them to seat right.

If you are a V-8 Club member, you might be interested in the latest issue of the V-8 TIMES (Sept/Oct) as it has an article about Ford fuel pumps and talks about fittings and lines. Has a great picture of nuts and fittings.
The issue is at the printers now and should be mailed early October. Otherwise, if a member, you could look at the digital version of the article now as it is available online (need to be a member of the Club to have access). |

Search of Edelmann's part number 108400 will usually find both reasonable and high $ sources for the Ford nuts.

Fuel would be weatherhead 59x4. Napa has them. Believe Napa has the vacuum affair as well. At least some do.

Over time the size of the vacuum tube changed in diameter and so did the vacuum fitting but all the years the original fittings were 1/2" hex head pre war. Today the original size is hard to find, they are now made with 7/16" hex head.

There seems to be some mixing up of the vacuum nuts with the fuel inlet nuts.
Vacuum nuts have a 3/8 unf thread and a 3/16" hole. Fuel inlet nuts have a 1/2" UNF thread and a 1/4" hole. Some are sold with a captive ferrule. These do not work as well as those that use a separate 1/4" ferrule, known in some areas as an olive. You can pull the captive ferrule out and use the nut with a separate ferrule, which works better.
