Default 39 transmission bearing cross reference

Looking for the SKF bearing # for the front and rear main bearing in a 39 3 sp transmission.

I looked in my bearing interchange and it shows 15 different SKF numbers for the front bearing with snap ring groove and 19 for the rear bearing with snap ring groove. The most common base number for the front was 6208 but then you need the correct suffix which I don't know.
The most common base number for the rear was 6306.

According to my Australian BSC (Bearing Service Company) automotive application catalogs,
The driveshaft rear is a : 6208 (FORD 51A7025),
Mainshaft rear : 6306 (FORD 51A7065),
Both bearings are open &no snap ring or groove.

Without the groove for a snap ring, then they wouldn't work. Snap ring is crucial to getting the back lash correct.

Having an N as a suffix behind the 6208 and 6306 denotes the snap ring groove. NR denotes snap ring groove AND snap ring....but you'll find the snap ring is thinner than the original Ford one[s]. So, use either suffixed bearing, but use the original Ford snap ring to control end play in the transmission.

This is good information. Mac Vanpelt makes the correct thickness snap rings to replace the these.
