59AB in 1936 Fan clearance
I installed a 59AB into my 36 coupe and used the front mount spacers from Drake. The fan is the correct original 36 one. I have very little clearance on the radiator upper tank. My friend did not use these spacers on his 59AB in his 36 and has a lot of clearance. Also the bottom radiator hoses would have to be a moulded type due to the offset in height. Anyone else have this problem and can anyone post some photos of their installation. I have no shims under the radiator but raising it up would destroy the hood fit. The radiator is a recored original.

Get a shorter fan belt. I have had that problem before and either changed manifolds to get a lower gen mounting and also have used shorter belt which required tilting the gen while really loose and then tightning with about no up adjustment.

Re: 59AB in 1936 Fan clearance
I don't understand why you used those "U" shaped spacers when installing a 59 engine in a '36 Ford. I have a 59 engine in a '35 Ford (basically the same frame) that uses stock '37-'48 water pumps w/mount feet, stock rubber donut shaped motor mount cushions and no "U" spacers. Those spacers are normally needed when installing the later FH engines in a '33/'34 Ford. I believe I once had to use those spacers when installing an 8ba engine in my '35 when using Merc/truck waterpumps.

Chuck, John is correct; you do not need those spacers. Here is my 59 engine in my 36. Ed

Re: 59AB in 1936 Fan clearance
Likewise I put a 59AB in a 35 with the stock pumps with the standard biscuits - no spacer. Worked perfectly.

Re: 59AB in 1936 Fan clearance
Another thing...the front of the 59 can be configured pretty easily to carry a 1936 fan in the exact same place it would be on a 1936 engine. All you need is a '38-9 fan pulley type generator (or the stock '36 generator, if you do not mind the lack of regulation) and the original fan. Use any intake manifold with same height at gen mount as 1936...there are a couple of different heights there. I think the '46-48 may already be that height...but in any case, it will happily accept the '36 manifold.

The spacers are for use in 1933-34 frames with other than 33-34 motor mount configurations.

Re: 59AB in 1936 Fan clearance
For what it's worth.....My '36 water inlets/motor mounts were badly corroded so I found a pair of '35 inlets to replace them. The flange angle was off by 10 degrees or more and the hoses would kink.I don't know how many styles there are for the different years but it could be that you need inlets from another year. Good luck.

Re: 59AB in 1936 Fan clearance
Chuck, the radiator hoses that work for this engine setup is a Gates 21253 for the upper and a Gates 20151 for the lower. Ed

Re: 59AB in 1936 Fan clearance
Easiest solution is to eliminate the spacers and use 8BA bottom hoses which have the correct offset in them.

Re: 59AB in 1936 Fan clearance
Also ,when I had the 99a engine in my 33, as well as the u shaped spaces it also needed a 6 mm spacer to get the crankshaft in the centre of the crank handle come front U bolt mount.

Re: 59AB in 1936 Fan clearance
I have the same problem in my 36. I have to change the worn motor mounts and saw the spacers. I don`t know why somebody did this.

I guess they decided to get the engine located properly and left working out fan problems to the installer. |

Re: 59AB in 1936 Fan clearance
I have a 39 transmission and a torq tube rear end in the 36. I will try to get the engine a little bit down. Clearance at the oil pan is ok I think. We will see.
The carb on the 59AB has 3 degrees so maybe it gets to zero. |
