prime a new carb
What are the steps to priming a new fuel pump on a 51 EAB engine?

Re: prime a new carb
It should self-prime in 20-30 seconds. If it doesn't, suspect an air leak in the fuel line prior to the pump or an improperly sealing sediment bowl gasket.
Give your battery and starter a break and dump a little gas in the carb to get it to fire. I use one of those squeeze ketchup bottles from the dollar store for this. |

Re: prime a new carb
I use a squirt oil can with a pump filled with gasoline to fill the float bowl of the carburetor through the float bowl vent tube that is located in the center of the carburetor throat. I also give 1 shot of fuel down each barrel to richen the incoming mixture for starting the engine. The car will run long enough on that amount of fuel to pull fuel up from the tank to the pump.

Re: prime a new carb
Just did this on my 39. Put 4 gals. gas in tank for first time and primed carb. Was running on its own in less than 10 seconds. Fuel pump was a rebuilt later one with the glass bowl .
