I'll echo the comments above about the "modern" shocks being too stiff and add that I have had a couple of the lower rear mounting brackets break.(that attach at the back of the backing plate). Naturally, they broke hundreds of miles from home. The first time, as I drove through a country town, I saw an engineering business where agricultural equipment was repaired. They were easily able to weld it on the spot.
I think the breaks happened because the shocks are too stiff.
