There is no published diameter or specification from Ford.

......... yet based on the premise that we have always deemed 12.060" to be the recognized safe - and LEGAL limit - for the '40-'48 drums, I can't imagine why we would assume that the similarly-constructed '36-'39 drums would fall under a different specification.

If 12.060 is max to turn the drums; what diameter is the wear limit?

There is no Max Dia. Spec. published by Ford for the 40-48 drums either. I know others have applied their knowledge to this issue, over years on fordbarn.com but I can find nothing in writing from Ford. IMO there should be some Spec. I am not the person to develop the Spec.

Some say 12.090", but again not based on Ford documentation.

Wonder what the deciding factor was in olden times; must be a reason that I find so many brake shoes with shims behind the linings.

At one time a thicker brake material was available for your shoes. I believe discontinued now. 12.060 is some what standard and hard to find. Newc
