Default 1939 ford spring Perch

Hi all!

I am having a problem removing the front shackle out of the spring perch, I’ve tried drilling and hammering it out to no avail. I was wondering would I do any harm to the spring perch by heating it up? Would it weaken the spring perch?

Much appreciated!

Usually removing them from the spring is easy.

I'd suggest you put a hacksaw blade in there and cut through what remains of the perch pin shell. Once you've slit that shell, use a curved tip cold chisel and peal it away.

I would not heat a spring.

I've used heat many times on the perch with no problems. Heat must be used in a wishbone splitting installation. Oops can't talk about doing that on this forum.

Heating the perch is no problem. It will help with driving out the center pin and you can then use a hacksaw blade to cut through the remaining outer shell. Kind of a nasty job.

As Kube said...not advisable for the spring itself, just the perch end of the wishbone.

Heat has always been my go to option.

I cut the outer shell with a torch. Its thin, pre heats fast, pull the trigger and move quick. Only takes a few seconds, not going to hurt the spring. I also use the torch to get the pin out. Heat the pin, wiggle with vice grips until you get it out. burn/chip the rubber junk out.
