Check above the transmission in the tunnel, should be undercoating around there. If you can scrape of dissolve a bit of that it should show. My 68 Fairlane and 68 Montego were both the red oxide primer color. It may depend on assembly plant also. Black on firewall, underhood areas and radiator support.

Re: 1967 ford fairlane, underbody paint
Most of the time it was red oxide primer. The factory did not tape up at the rockers, so the under floor area will be over spray of whatever body color they were painted. Some of the plants in later years used what they called slop paint. It was all the left-over colors mixed together. If that is what you have, difficult to reproduce that.
You should be ok going with red oxide. |

Re: 1967 ford fairlane, underbody paint
Most of the ones I've seen had undercoating sprayed over primer and they ended up red oxide all right. Swiss Cheese with iron oxide is more accurate.
If there is anything bolted direct to the underside and it can be removed then there may still be some coating on there. One of my old 51 Mercs had red oxide underneath but it turned a sort of gray color after so many years in the elements. |
