Painting Project Update
Well, it has been a while since I gave you an update on my truck. I am finding out that painting a body is very much a combination of art and science, but am happy to report that finished pieces have started coming back home. Finally! I am finished with everything but the bed and tailgate. I am also going to redo one of the fenders and splash shields. Other than that, everything looks great. I also have the engine looking pretty good. Putting it back together sure is a lot slower than taking it apart. No kidding! I still think it is funny that they call this color gunmetal blue. Anyway, here are a few photos. More to come this week when I bring the cab home. Bob |

Yes, my 28 Phaeton was also gunmetal blue and someone in the 50's painted the car black, except left the original paint on the firewall and under the seats. It sure looks green to me.

Tom, what you have done is good, what i have found out and i tell anyone doing there own painting, the hardest part is talking your self into trying it

Mr. HorseWhisperer, I believe you have seen my truck in all of its yellow glory? It is going to look so much nicer when it is done. I plan on taking the truck to the MARC meet in Oshkosh next year. I have never done anything like this before and am kind of excited. My goal is to have it in my local 4th of July parade. The thing that I had not thought about for reassmbely is that everything I am ready to reinstall needs to be cleaned, polished, replaced or whatver. Very slow and tedious process, but well worth the effort.
The paint is an acrylic enamel. It is plenty shiny withouth a clear coat. Bob |
