I'm continuing to get familiar with my (new to me) '31 AA truck and I noticed that the dash light was missing. I replaced it and it stays on all the time. I looked at several various versions of wiring diagrams and I can't see any disconnect for the dash light. It was connected to my ammeter, as it should be, but the circuit is live all the way to the starter lug where the wire in the terminal box gets it's juice. I double checked the terminal box wiring and it's correct. The only way I can see to cut power is to pull the fuse on the starter. I was thinking of tapping into the tail-light circuit, but thought I would chime in first. Thanks

The dash light on 30-31 has a switch built in to the light... a little nurled shaft that you flip up or down to turn on-off the light.

I wired mine to come on with the tail lights, it's on when you need it, & off when you don't.

What type of speedometer do you have? Round or oval. I have a 1931 that has the oval type. The light is in the center of the dash panel like on a 1929. It is odd but sometimes odd things were used in trucks.

The speedometer is round on mine. The dash light on my truck sits under the dashboard edge and shines down on the instrument cluster.

I re-read my original post and just to be clear... it was the bulb that was missing, not the whole light. I probably should have worded it better. Someone removed it due to it being on constantly.

I think the little knurled shaft screws into the socket to allow you to turn the light on/off. It is probably missing

i had the same problem, '31 slant windshield, i couldn't turn off the light. I took it apart and decided it wasn't repairable. So i left it in the 'on' position and put a yellow led in there. Doesn't draw any current and the light is on when you need it. Also serves as a reminder that i forgot to switch off my big main switch...

Some of the aftermarket light units are troublesome! May need to play with it a bit to get it functioning!
