Any idea what year and car these are for?
A friend brought them to breakfast for show and tell this morning. Both appear to be radiator caps. The round one is threaded and is too big for an A. Sugar package is for size reference.

Re: Any idea what year and car these are for?
If all three of the caps shown above in post #4 appear alike, they are poor reproductions of the 34 passenger car radiator cap.

What characteristics make it aftermarket? Is this 34 cap original?

Re: Any idea what year and car these are for?
The various pieces that attach to the underside of the cap in photos #7 and #8 are those of an original Ford cap. If you look closely at the underside of the cap in photo #4 you will note that those components are entirely different.

Re: Any idea what year and car these are for?
To fully understand, there are no identifiable differences on top of the cap? Only the attached components that attach the cap to the underside of the cap are the difference?
Originally nickel or chrome finish? |

Re: Any idea what year and car these are for?
Some period aftermarket 33 and 34 caps I have seen are plated steel clad crimped over a steel base. There are also 2 rivets that secure the components to the base.

Re: Any idea what year and car these are for?
Original caps have the proper Ford part number embossed on the bottom of the die casting. They are without any embossment such as "Drake, Vintique or Argentina"

Re: Any idea what year and car these are for?
I had assumed this one was original, but there are no markings that I can find. Does that make it an old after market piece? And I assume it was originally nickel finish?
Thanks for everyone's help with this! |

Re: Any idea what year and car these are for?
It may have a Ford part number cast into the bottom if original, but concealed by the gasket, The single screw attachment and the cup-shaped bottom piece are consistent with an original cap.

Correct. You may break their arms if they attempt it.

Re: Any idea what year and car these are for?
Allinger: It appears the cap you have may have been painted gray at one time. If so it may be a war production item. Without any embossing of a part number I would consider it a reproduction. Even with the gasket and attachment connected you should be able to see at least part of the part number.
