Anyone know about a 4 cylinder flathead in a 41 Ford?

I think it was 40 & 41 they made those 4 cylinders. I believe they are the same engines as the Ford tractors, but not positive.

This was the 9N tractor engine with a special bellhousing and front motor mount adapters to bolt into a '41-'42 pickup. This was the "economy" engine used to replace the 60 HP V8 which was discontinued after 1940. The 9N (later the 2N & 8N) was essentially half of the '39 Mercury V8 (3 3/16" bore). The pistons, rings, valves, springs and lifters were interchangeable. It was 119.5 cubic inches and rated at 40 HP.

Do a Google Search for German Model B Compressor and look for Ford Garage , see if it isn't a G28-T built by Ford Koln in Germany during the 40's and 50's. This was an improved B engine with full oil pressure etc. Saw one in New Zealand. I have never seen one here in the States. Met a guy in Christchurch with one in a AA that will do 55-60. It might be what you are seeing???

Right down to to the Marvel up-draft carb and that damned front-mounted distributor ! A few changes from the agricultural version: No Governor ( right side, rear of timing case) Generator flipped to right side of engine Sending units for temperature and oil-pressure That's a neat package, but I'll bet it's even slower than a stock Model A ! |

Those pickups, and some other commercial bodied Fords that had the tractor engine, had 18" wheels, very popular with the Lakes & Bonneville crowd as they could use Indy tires on them. The trucks were slightly faster than a 1-horse wagon

I don't know if this thread is still alive but I have a complete transmission one year only ( I think ) for a 41 Ford 4 cylinder. The case is a 78 case and it has two cutouts one on the upper left for the 4 cylinder and one on the lower right for the 8 cylinder. Email me if any body is interested. [email protected]
