I'll add my own comments. First, I'll confirm that the pictures are of a 1936 Model 51 truck with a 131 1/2" wheelbase. If the frame rails end at the fifth cross member, then it was likely a dump truck from the beginning. If not, then the dump part has been added at some point.
It looks like it has all of the deluxe truck features which became available as a package in May 1936, but could have been purchased separately before and after then and not as a package. If you decide to purchase this truck, let me know if you have any specific questions about originality or parts. I have a library of information on Model 51 trucks and might be able to help you out. The format of the serial number is BB18-x xxx xxx with the x's being numbers. It's not hard to find a list of numbers by month for 1935 and 1936. Most of the serial numbers were preceded by a star and had a star at the end. The serial number is on the top lip of the transmission above the inspection cover plate and also on the left (driver's side) top frame rail just in front of the firewall. The numbers should match, mostly because the transmission is rarely replaced. Also, the serial number of this truck should be in the May or later serial numbers if it was really produced as a factory deluxe model. |

I defer to Model51 regarding the continuation of using the BB prefix for big trucks engine (serial) numbers after the '34 model year. Thanks, Dave.

Here's an example of the serial number on the transmission.
I hope I don't sound like a know-it-all. I'm nearing the end of a multi-year effort to publish a book on the Model 51 trucks. It will be 240-250 pages and hopefully be in the same series as the Early Ford V8 Club of America car books. |

In case anyone is interested, here's the list of deluxe truck features for closed cabs:
• Chrome Radiator Shell: This is the same part as supplied with the standard truck but fully chromium-plated instead of being painted body color. • Chrome Windshield Frame: The windshield frame remained unchanged other than being chromium-plated. • Dual Horns: A second horn, located on the right-side fender, was added. Both horns have a chromium-plated top cover and sound horn. The main body remained painted black. • Dual Wipers: A second wiper was added on the right-hand side and was attached, and driven by, the standard left-hand wiper. • Chromium-Plated Mirror and Arm: The mirror arm, mirror body and hinge pin are chromium-plated. • Cigar Lighter and Ash Tray: A cigar lighter and ash tray are installed on the dash. Period literature shows the ash tray mounted in the center of the dash and the cigar lighter to the left of the instrument cluster. • Dome Light: A dome light was added which required installation of a wood support block between the windshield header and top support beam of the cab along with a wire from the fuse-resistor panel. • Sliding Back Window: This replaced the standard non-opening back window. • Sun Visor: A sun visor was mounted to the windshield header on the driver’s side. |

Here are model numbers for 1935, 1936 and 1937
Model 50 = 1935 Pickup Model 51 = 1936 Truck Model 67 = 1936 Pickup Model 51 = 1936 Truck Model 77 = 1937 Pickup with 85HP V8 Model 73 = 1937 Pickup with 60HP V8 Model 79 = 1937 Truck with 85HP V8 Model 75 = 1937 Truck with 60HP V8 The list of items Ford offered in late 1936 as the "Deluxe" package was ordered from the factory for a discount over the sum of the individual prices. All of these items could be installed at a dealership or by the owner (at full price). Honestly, I have concentrated on 1935 and 1936 trucks (not the commercial pickups) and I also don't know much at all about option packages for 1937, if Ford even offered any. Also, the Deluxe package didn't change the model number of the truck. |

Thank you all once again for the valuable information. The pics on van pelt sales show the wheels and bumper consistent with Model 51. I have asked for a tape measure picture but haven’t heard back.
Won’t know about serial numbers until I hear back from seller. I do think truck was ordered with dump bed. Model51 if I am able to get the truck - I will be first in line for your book! Thank you all |

It does have a dome light and visor.
The spare is located on a rack under the rear bed end of truck. |

Moosemoon,
The factory dump trucks had a clamshell type spare tire carrier on top of the frame rails immediately behind the cab and ahead of the dump body. Typically the platform trucks have the spare tire carrier under the frame behind the rear axle. I'm going to try and attach an image of this equipment to this note so you can see what it looks like. Many dump beds were added after the truck left the dealer, so it's no big deal if the dump isn't a Wood or Galion body which were the two offered by Ford in 1935 or 1936. From the photo of the truck you posted and your comments about it having a spare tire carrier under the rear frame, it appears the dump body has been added at some point to a standard 131-1/2" cab and chassis. No matter, it's still a cool truck. Hope you get it. Dave |

Moosemoon,
If you do end up purchasing this truck, I would really be interested in a good quality photo of the installed sun visor and also of the ash tray and cigar lighter. Seeing them installed as Ford originally made them would be a treat for me. Dave |
