Default Generator tension brace assembly

Can anyone provide a part number for the correct v belt used with this brace, Mac's A10152? Most venders offer the same brace. I've tried a number of different belts. Can't get the slotted part of the bracket to align with any mounting bolts on the engine.

This is for a 1931 with the stock generator.

Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem and ended up making my own. I used a turnbuckle fitting with an eye bolt and locknut on the timing cover and a u-shaped bracket, bolt, and locknut against the alternator. This way you can adjust the belt tension with the turnbuckle and lock it in with the lock nuts.

The stock generator can hold all the tension the belt needs without any additional bracket. You should be able to easily flex the belt in and out about an inch, and the fan and generator should have no problem with slipage. Making the belt tighter puts undue stress on the bearings of the water pump and generator.

I agree with Tom,
There is no need with a generator, the belt doesn't need to be tight like a modern belt ---if you look in the instruction book it is the only passage that is underlined --this adjustment should not be channged unless the belt slips ---the belt will look too loose when it is adjusted properly --if you have a problem with the generator moving you probably have too much paint on the mounting ear and generator ---which also is not good for conducting electricity(ground path) ---modifications used as a crutch instead of proper restoration do not increase reliability.

I used to think I needed a stay to keep the generator tight ---then after I cleaned excess paint thickness off all ground paths I also noticed the generator stopped moving, and although the belt looked like it was loose it also didn't slip

I also agree with both Tom and Kurt. I have always heard not to overtighten the Genny and Waterpump belt.

Yes . Definitely can hurt the water pump if over tightened, exactly why we have a deep pulley for more contact/grip area

How did you solve your problem? I have the brace, but after reading the comments, I’m thinking about cleaning off the generator mounting points and trying again. As of now, just the one bolt is not working to keep my belt tight.

Do not neglect to check/insure the generator bolt is the proper size, seen many using 1/2, 9/16 bolts, this makes for a very sloppy fit, that's why they use the tension brace I'm guessing, a 3/4 inch bolt about 3 inches long will do the trick for you.

Methinks you mean a 1/2" bolt w/a 3/4" AF head and matching nut (3/4" AF)
