Default Building an Early Model T (1909-14)

I am going to attempt to build an Early Model T (1909-14) from the frame, up.
I have a Front Axle coming on Tuesday. I have located a Frame and a Front Spring (supposedly both are over 100 years old). I need to buy some Spring Clips from Langs.com. I have likewise located a Rear Axle, with Differential, Pinion Drive Shaft and Rear Radius Rods. Any suggestions and comments are most certainly welcome. Thanks !

I just spoke with a man, from Florida and he said that I'd be crazy to try to build a Model T from parts. Is he speaking the truth ?

Possibly. I have built 3 model Ts from scratch. It helps to have a lot of parts on hand or available. There are a lot of parts for sale right now all over the country. The earlier stuff is harder to find.
Where there's a will, there's a way.
Best wishes.

Depends what you want. If you want a CORRECT brass car, parts are expensive. The older it is, the more it will cost. Real 1915 parts aren't cheap but REAL 1909 parts are REALLY EXPENSIVE. If you are just putting together a pile of Model T parts and don't care about what is correct, you can build a functional car at possibly an affordable price.
Of course, you are better off buying a complete car that is running and driving. But, if you want to build a car, go for it. It will be a good learning experience.

I would like to stay with parts for a 1913-14. I do not want to necessarily mix parts from a 1913 car and a 1927 car.

Parts for the brass era model Ts are out there but from my experience, a person is way ahead to purchase a complete car. It could take years to find all the parts to complete an early car like that. Buying one part at a time is an expensive way to go.

That would certainly be my opinion also! Buy one that is no longer wanted for likely a quarter of the price!

I could only hope to find someone who would sell their semi complete model T car for a reasonable price.

This shows the '14 I pieced together and what I started with. It might give you some idea.

Could I find a semi complete car, in need of restoration, for $1,000-$1,200?

one of the easiest states in the country............

no, you wont find a 13-14 brass car for 1000-1200. the radiator alone is worth that in good shape.
figure 8-10k for a restorable 13-14 on a good day.
if on a budget, do what you are doing- piece one together.

I don't want to simply buy a car and drive it, but I would like the challenge of building a car and being able to say that I did.

I built my first Model T from parts when I was a kid. It "became" a running and driving 1914 speedster by the time I was 16 years old. Accomplishing this was a great education as well as the best introduction to the old car hobby that one could ask for. 40+ years later, I am still playing with Model Ts and other cars. You'll learn more by building your first car than by buying a car.

GO FOR IT and remember the journey can be as much fun-or more- than the destination!!!
