Tin it with that no lead solder or old Babbitt perhaps
What lengths/quantity, if it's only a few I can look in the wwll surplus box
And is it 10-32 machine screw, or #10 wood screw

That's what I'd do. Galvanized paint looks like grey paint, I have used it. It does not look like zinc.
