37 column drop
I recently bought a complete used 37 column, box etc. I’m wondering if someone can post pictures of the screws/bolts that hold it together? Mine appear to be all broken. But I’d like to confirm before I drill and try to remove them so I can get it off the column and apart. Thank you, Chris.

Re: 37 column drop
I have some detailed pictures of the column drop and the bolts that hold it to the dash. Would this help? I also have some pics showing an exploded view of the steering gear box, along with the mounting plate and bolts that fasten it to the frame.

Re: 37 column drop
Check with Fred at Southside Obsolete or Michael Driskell at Third Gen Automotive for the twist off bolt.

Re: 37 column drop
I had the same problem on my37 Fordor. I carefully drilled it out and installed a set screw in its place.

You sure helped me understand all this stuff better. Mine is a 36 but i don't think they are all that different. Thanks, Terry

Re: 37 column drop
Yep, they are similar. I believe Don Rogers posted some pic's of 36 stuff. I can dig those out if you are interested.

Gregg, Excellent!! Excellent job on your '37 steering column picture posting! With your permission, I would like to download all the information you have posted here to my files for future personal reference, and possibly to repost when someone else is seeking info, or has questions on the '37 steering column assembly. I also have Don's '35-'36 steering column and column drop information saved in my files, which I frequently refer to when helping others.

Re: 37 column drop
Absolutely, go for it John. Over the years, I have documented most of my 37 like this.

Re: 37 column drop
You don’t need to drill the pinch bolt completely out. I drill a line of 1/16 in holes across the face and use a screwdriver to screw them out. I reuse the bolts.

Re: 37 column drop
I do the same thing, but occasionally I can't get that bolt to break loose using a handheld screwdriver, so I go to a handheld impact driver to get it to start turning, then use a regular flat blade screwdriver to bring that bolt completely out. Some penitrating oil on the treads can also be helpful.
