Airtex E8902
Hi guys
Since my tank is out, I figured why not replace the electric fuel pump. It came today but looks completely different than the one I currently have. The box says E8902 but no markings on the unit. Please see pic. Have they changed design? Is this still 6 volt?

The part number you have quoted E8902 is for the AIRTEX low pressure 6 volt pump. The pump in your picture does not appear to be an AIRTEX and may be a CARTER or another make and may also not be a low pressure unit for a flathead V8 engine. Send it back and ask for the correct one. Where did you buy it ? Regards, Kevin.

That's a Carter pump, I wonder if it is a return where someone sent in their Carter? Mac's sells it as a Carter: https://www.amazon.com/MACs-Auto-Par.../dp/B071JHFCVS
That said, I don't know that it's a bad pump. Some Carters are really nice pumps.

I was in an airtex box and the unit was in a sealed plastic bag it looks new. The Carter sells for a lot more than airtex. Guess I’ll give it a shot.

I don't know about the pressure, but those are real good pumps.........based only on my experience with the 12v Carter which looks identical. I never understood the part of the listing which says either 6 or 12 volt.

Ya Leon I wondered about that as well. I have a fuel pressure gauge on the 39. I have someone watch it on start up.
Fingers crossed maybe I lucked out, only paid $35. for it.

I run that same pump. Quiet and dependable. No regulator. Been fine for 5 years.

I got mine from Summit, and the kit is just like the petehoovie picture. My 46 is stock using the mechanical pump. I only use the electric pump to “prime” if the car has sat for a week or so, so I don’t worry about the 4 psi. Just make sure that the pump you buy is a “flow through” type or you will need to run it when ever the engine is running.

Same problem ..Ordered a 8902 from rock auto and box and bills said it was but looks like its a carter..Even had 8902 on box and stamped in metal case..So?? Not even any wiring marks like pos and negative..Dont know what i have and a pain to return...

Don't feel pregnant boys, I ordered the Airtex E8902 from AutoPartsKart.com and it don't look like the one peethoovie got, which is what I was looking for, nor the one that Adileo got either. It is in a sealed plastic bag and has 8902 on one line, and directly below that it has 080321A-06. These numbers look somewhat akin to those that are electronically imprinted expiration dates on food product cans. No instructions at all. No other markings at all.
Wal-Mart, Home Depot and NAPA all advertise they sell Airtex. I'm calling each tomorrow and see if they have the E8902 in stock and if so, I'm going to each to see just what their pump looks like. Ain't modern merchandising great?

I have a carter 6 volt pump and it looks like Andy's picture. Mine is marked, Carter 7E15A- 430 made in USA, clearly marked on the metal case. I didn't know it at the time, but it will not flow fuel thru it unless it is turned on. The Airtex will let fuel flow thru it, so you can turn it off if just using it to prime, if car is sitting a long time. I couldn't send it back because I waited too long. I should have gotten the Airtex so I could prime or leave it on if my mechanical pump were to fail.

Well maybe this will help others out. I have used an Airtex E8911 6V electric fuel pump for years. Great pump. It looks exactly like the pump pictured in Petehoovie's post. It is a 5-8 pound pump. I wanted a 2-5 pound pump which bears number E8902. I ordered the E8902 based on part number and a picture. Like Adileo, when the pump arrived it looked like the one he got. I sent it back thinking it was mis-packaged. I thought, I'll order it again, this time from Amazon as they showed what I thought it looked like. Lo and behold, same looking pump that Adileo got. Thoroughly confused and pissed I called Airtex tech department and spoke with some tech, in India or the Philippines or somewhere not in south Georgia at least. He told me that the design of the 8911 and the picture everyone is using for the E8902 was obsoleted quite some rime back and that Airtex does not make a 2 pound pump. So, I'll have to return the second pump and at least get some of my money back. The first one I will have to pay some unknown % "re-stocking fee". I hope this helps someone out. You can't go by pictures or what some dealer says about a product. They only go by a part number shown on the box. Ya gotta go directly to the horses mouth. Such is life. Res Ipsa Loquitor. I’ve also installed the E8902 on my 40 to use as a priming pump. Went to start the car the other day and couldn’t hear the pump running, you guessed it the pump failed after maybe 20 starts. Unfortunately I bought it last year and installed it over the winter. Warranty expired. I also have one on my 49 Wayfarer Convertible that I suppose is going to fail also. Suppose it’s time to source a reliable replacement and not Airtex.
