Dana 44 axle housing leak
I have had a small gear oil leak on a Dana 44 rear axle in our 52 F1. At first I thought it was the fill plugs, but upon inspection last night, I think it’s coming from the housing. We had a pin hole leak show up when the axle was put in epoxy primer. I used some glyptal on the inside and thought I sealed it up, but it appears to still be leaking.
Anyone ever come across a leak like this? Recommendations on repair? JB |

The photo is hard to distinguish what we are looking at there. If that is the input area, the input seal would be suspect.

In that photo, the pinion seal area is pointed to the ground. The leak is from a spot right above the webbing in the actual housing. I don’t think it’s a crack, just a casting flaw/pore that goes through the metal into the oil chamber?

You can pin it or possibly seal it but a pin would likely last longer. If it's leaking gear oil from inside then it goes all the way through. |
